On Saturday 16 March, five friends and I visited Karaoke Box in Smithfield, London. A stone’s throw from Farringdon Station, Karaoke Box Smithfield is a chic, modern and spacious contemporary cocktail bar. Surrounding the bar are sixteen private karaoke rooms of varying capacities which are outfitted with plenty of attractive features such as flat screen TV’s, leather seating, surround sound, wireless microphones so you can shake your booty whilst you sing, easy to use touch screen monitors with 9000+ songs searchable by title or artist. Waitress service is also available at the push of a button when you just can’t pry yourself away from the microphone.
Upon arriving at Karaoke Box Smithfield we were shown downstairs to the underground bar and met at reception by a very helpful assistant who advised that although we were early for our 8.30pm booking, we could be shown straight to our own private room if desired. We opted to have a drink at the bar before proceeding, for a bit of Dutch courage and were amazed by the vast amount of drinks available such as numerous cocktails, both alcoholic and no alcoholic, shooters, beers, spirits, liquors, champagne, wine, even sake and plum wine, also known as (Ume-Shu).
There is plenty of seating in the bar area with exceptionally comfortable tables and chairs so even if you don’t fancy doing karaoke, you can go to Karaoke Box and enjoy a drink or two whilst sat in a comfortable, relaxing environment. There was music being played around the bar but it wasn’t overpowering so we were able to sit and enjoy a pleasant conversation without the need to shout to be heard.
After a few drinks we decided we could no longer put it off and asked the very helpful manager to show us to our room. He was exceptionally friendly, showing us around our room, how to use the touch screen monitors and how to select our favourite songs from the vast array available. Most importantly he showed us the button to press when we required personal bar service. I think it’s fair to say we pressed the button a lot but the waitresses were great, taking our orders and promptly returning with our numerous amounts of drinks. At one point we even ordered pizza from the food menu which again was quickly delivered to us and tasted lovely. There was other food available but it’s mainly finger food and pizza which was great for us as a group sharing.
In the two hours we were inside Karaoke Box Smithfield, we sang (or should I say murdered) a good few songs ranging from the originals such as Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive, Queen – We Will Rock You up to the modern day tracks such as Robbie Williams – Candy. We were apprehensive about singing at first but once we got into it, we absolutely loved it, singing as individuals, in duets or even as a whole group. We found it very addictive and even if we didn’t have the microphone in our hand, we were singing along. Our two hour session flew by!
At 10.30pm it was time for us to hand back the microphones, settle our massive drinks bill, thank the staff for their exceptional service and leave but we did assure them we would definitly be back again as we had a fab time.
I would definitely recommend Karaoke Box Smithfield to anyone and everyone whether you would like to do karaoke or not as it’s a nice bar, the food and drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is great. A top night out, would be an ideal venue for a celebration with friends!
The karaoke rooms come in different sizes with a capacity from 4 – 30 people and rates start from £20 up to £210 per hour and must be booked for a minimum of 1 hour.
