We visited Buxton Opera House on a Monday evening in September to watch the production of ‘The Perfect Murder’.
Finding the theatre was very easy and is well signposted. We managed to find a parking space just down the road from the theatre, It is free parking on the road from 6pm and there are plenty of spaces around.
After collecting our tickets from the very helpful lady at the ticket office, we made our way up the stairs to find the toilets.
The toilets we went to were located on the circle and were well maintained and clean. We then went to find our seats which were at the top of the theatre in the gallery. We were sat right on the front row, and although we were high up we had a very good view of the stage.
Whilst we were waiting for the show to begin we had a chance to take in the beautiful surroundings of the theatre. It is absolutely beautiful with golden ornaments on the wall, cherubs on the ceiling, chandeliers hanging from above, wonderfully comfy chairs with plenty of leg room.
The show began and it had us gripped from the beginning. The set was simple with just 4 rooms set up to make up the different scenes (It comprised of living room, kitchen, spare bedroom, and ‘girlfriends’ room!).
The show is about Victor Smiley (Robert Daws) and his wife Joan (Dawn Steele) who have been married for a long time. But there marriage has reached crisis point and Victor has decided there is only one way to get Joan out of his life for good, to commit the perfect murder. But of course not everything goes to plan… The whole show, is funny, clever and even a little bit spooky in places, but overall a brilliant watch! The actors and actresses are all very believable with their characters. This is a show I would definitely go and watch again, and I am looking forward to returning back to Buxton Opera House to see more shows in the future.
Tickets cost from £19.50 to £27.50 (plus £1 online booking fee).
The Perfect Murder is at the Buxton Opera House until 27 September 2014. For more information or to book tickets click here or call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
