I was brought up listening to Motown music. My mum is a huge fan of the popular genre of music and we often sang along to The Temptations and The Supremes together. I was delighted to be able to see The Magic of Motown stage show live at The Lowry Theatre last night. It brought back great memories of my childhood.
I was extremely excited to see the show and had taken my husband along with me. My high hopes were fulfilled with a brilliant performance by all of the 14 strong cast. The show is in its 10th year of touring and is also celebrating 50 years since Reach Out I’ll Be There became a number one hit.
The performance opened with the lead singer Andre Lejuane, inviting us to the party, and oh what a party it was. Performing a massive 36 tracks by Motown’s legends, including The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Martin Gaye, Diana Ross and more. With 4 male singers and 3 female singers taking on the different roles and putting some of their own personal touches to the songs, it was a truly spectacular show.
The audience we’re thoroughly engaged from the get go. With many standing up dancing along. After the interval, when The Jackson Five came on stage, the whole audience got to their feet and danced along. There was a huge feel good atmosphere and everyone was having an amazing time.
We thoroughly enjoyed the show and both believe it is probably one of our favourite live performances that we have seen. I can’t wait for the show to return to Salford, so I can bring my mum to experience the fantastic show.
