I had the pleasure of attending the Gunpowder Plot Immersive Experience with 3 friends at Tower Bridge London. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the whole experience.
The bar in which you wait for the experience to start is beautiful and has little booths that you can settle into. They serve a good range of cocktails and food.
The experience itself was great. It had me encaptivated from the very beginning with great actors that fully involve you in the experience by asking questions and asking you to make decisions so that you are part of the story. They also include a healthy dose of humour by ‘picking on’ some of the participants very much like a comedian would. The sound effects and the smells were very realistic.
The virtual reality parts of the experience were great and extremely realistic. I found the clear instructions on how to use the headset great as I don’t have much experience with VR headsets.
The interval in the Tavern well-integrated into the story. It gives everyone a chance to sit down, use the bathroom and buy a drink.
I learnt quite a few things about the Gunpowder Plot Immersive Experience that I did not know before. At the end of the experience there is a souvenir shop in which you can by memorabilia and a photo of your group if you wish to.
One of my friends that attended with me said the following:
I particularly enjoyed the VR part of the show. It gave me a proper feel of what London looked like in the 17th century and I was astonished at the level detail I got to experience. As someone who has always enjoyed learning about history, this was an experience like no other for me.
The actors made the atmosphere of danger palpable and this, too, is something you don’t get to experience from a book or even a movie (well, not on the same level). I was familiar with the story, but I can honestly say that I have now learned a lot more. Overall, a great fun!
Another friend said:
So there were a few issues with the lockers, they’re pretty tricky to operate unless you have a knack for it. We had to go back a couple of times to change the lockers as they were faulty.
The prices in the bar were expensive, 9.20 for a double gin and tonic but what do you expect for London! The cocktail that was in the package was a basic Bellini, nice touch with the popping candy but a bit let down with the cheap wine used for it. Also it’s a set cocktail, no choice at all, you get what you’re given!
The experience itself was very well thought out and interactive, humorous at times too. The actors had our attention and we were not bored at all; kept us guessing which way the story was going to go, even if we already knew the history. All in all, a great experience with a need for fine tuning, but fun was had by everyone, would recommend the experience. It’s the best immersive exhibition I have attended.
