Wow what a tribute show, I grew up listening to Diana Ross as my mum was a huge fan. The story follows her and the Supremes in chronological order with their history of over one million records sold.
We arrived at the lighthouse theatre at about 7.15, it’s a theatre local to us so we didn’t have far to travel. It’s a lovely theatre set in the town of Poole, we have attended may shows here. We went to the ticket office to collect our tickets, then made our way to the bar to get some drinks. We then made our way into the theatre and took our seats we were sat in row H seats 7 and 8 and and had a great view of the stage and plenty of leg room, I always find that wherever I sit in this theatre has plenty of leg room. The stage was set up with 2 platforms one on either side of the stage, on the left was. A piano and Saxophone and on the right was a drum kit and bass guitars.
The show started off with the young Diana who started the story from the beginning when she was in the Supremes, and took us right back to the year it all began. After each song on the projector behind them it came up with the next record and told us what year and what happened during that year. Right from the start the audience was encouraged to join in and participate. Throughout the show you were allowed to take pictures and record videos. Before the first half had finished people wear dancing and singing along . Each and every singer was incredible and all performed and showed us what they could do with solo moments. Both Diana’s were sensational. The live band were amazing and also had opportunities to show us what they could do with some fantastic solo moments, they supported the show with such enthusiasm and also encouraging the audience to participate.
The second half took us through the next stage of Diana life after she left the supremes, and how she rose to fame alone. The second half was the best bit for me the whole audience were up on their feet dancing and singing along and Diana came down into the audience to join in and get us to sing along. Then just before the big ending they did a beautiful emotional tribute to all the Mowtown singers we have lost over the decades as this played on the projector the backing singers sung, it was a beautiful song and the 3 girls brought the house down as Diana came back out to sing some classics which everyone knew and joined in singing along.
Rating: 5 out 5
I would highly reccomend seeing this show, my friend and I had a great evening and would go again.
