I have been buzzing with excitement over this review as I think the whole concept is genius, and I have no idea why I haven’t heard about it before. Gone are the days of cramming as many blankets as possible over your baby and trying to tuck them in, only for the little monkey to kick them off. Not much you can do about it when you’re driving right?!

The Cocoon baby blanket actually fits into the car seat and cradles your baby so that it is toasty warm, and more importantly baby cannot wriggle out of it. As a result you have a warm baby for your entire car journey, or whilst you push him around in his car seat/pram combo, which is vital now that the cold weather is setting in. The name “Cocoon” says it all really!

When my blanket arrived even the delivery box was nice; it’s really sturdy and the tape was so thick that nothing was getting in there! The blanket arrived wrapped in gorgeous tissue paper, complete with an instruction leaflet. It just felt like a really special item.

This product is made by a British Company, established in 2014, with a lovely history based on Granny’s original knitted car-seat blanket for her grandchildren. The idea escalated from there, with the concept being to “Keep babies safer and warmer” which every parent wants!

The Cocoon Baby Blanket comes in 5 different interior colours, whilst the exterior of all blankets is a woollen knitted black and white design, and will match any car-seat. You can chose between Jet Black, Pearl White, Candy Pink, Ocean Blue and Ruby Red fluffy interiors. I chose the Pearl White.

It is recommended from newborn until around 6 months. As well as using the blanket in the car-seat, it’s great for keeping baby wrapped up snug in a normal pushchair or stroller so you will get more than your moneys’ worth. It has won several “Loved by Parents” awards and a Bizzie Baby award, just for that extra bit of reassurance.

I was a little concerned about fitting the blanket as I am pretty useless at car-seats and always need my husband to sort out straps and the like as I have no patience for them. However, using the instruction leaflet was fairly straightforward and once you’ve done this once it becomes quite easy. You need to have the blanket fitted into the straps before you bring your baby into the mix as that is the fiddly part (or at least you have to with the car-seat I used), but once this is achieved you simply place your little one comfortably into the seat as you would normally. They have the gorgeous soft fleecy interior of the blanket to lie inside, and you simply wrap the blanket around them and fasten the 4 poppers to hold it securely in place. This blanket fits all 3 point harnesses and 5 point harnesses with detachable straps.

The beauty of this product is you can just open the poppers if your baby gets too hot without disturbing him, so you can just pull the car over safely to do this if you are driving alone. What I also love is this product removes the stress of your baby pulling the blanket over their face, because they can’t!

The poppers are really strong so a baby won’t be able to pop them open, but they are covered by lovely chunky black buttons to just give that extra bit of quality and attention to detail. This blanket is thick, luxurious and just what you’d want for your little one. It is so easy to transfer baby into the car-seat and Cocoon blanket, especially if they have fallen asleep, as you simply fasten him in and close the poppers.

Let’s talk about safety, which is always the priority. I think most people are aware that you cannot put any thick or padded clothing on babies whilst they are in their car-seat as they can slip out during a crash. I did wonder if these blankets would comply with safety regulations, but it has thankfully been crash safety tested. In addition it has been found that using the Cocoon blanket will offer a greater degree of protection to baby’s head and chest during a crash which is amazing.

The Cocoon Blanket is priced so reasonably at £35, making it an affordable gift especially now that Christmas is lurking around the corner. The company offers a 28 day no quibble returns policy, although I have no idea why you would want to return it! I think it speaks volumes about a company’s confidence in their product if they are prepared to offer this.

The washing of the blanket was another consideration of mine when reviewing it, because let’s be honest babies love to mess from both ends. It is a 30 degree or wool wash setting item, and the manufacturer advises that it is washed alone. It also cannot be tumble dried. For me this was the only drawback, as it is a daily-use item and getting it washed and dried for the following day could prove tricky if you only have one. Despite my opting for a white interior, so far I haven’t had any staining issues as any vomit has cleaned away easily. We haven’t experienced a bottom-leak yet and as all parents know, that stuff has some serious staining power, but I guess if you washed it right away you should get away with it. Time will tell on this one.

It is worth noting that website is fantastic. Should you lose your instruction leaflet everything is on there to help you, I was very impressed.

I think The Cocoon Baby Blanket is a fabulous “must” for all new parents. It would be a perfect Christmas gift for any new baby or pregnant mother, or even as a “new baby” gift as it’s so difficult to be original. It is so snuggly, beautiful to look at yet also a really useful accessory to make life a little easier, I just wish I had known about them sooner.
