There’s always a lot of new toys coming into the shops and things come in and out of popularity but there’s always room for what I would call “the classics”, the toys that have stood the test of time and remained popular throughout the generations.  Fuzzy-Felt is one of these classic toys.  It has been reimagined to make it more up to date, but still easily recognised by parents, grandparents and probably even great grandparents.

Invented by Lois Allan during world war two, this is a toy with a real history.  In 2017 it was commemorated on a special stamp from the Royal Mail who were celebrating ten of the most iconic toys from the last 100 years, making it almost a national treasure.

This is one of the few toys that works without batteries, does not wear out so can be used over and over and handed down to other children.  The Fuzzy-Felt set that I have been asked to review is The adventures of Paddington so it’s double classic.  Paddington bear has been around since 1958 when he first appeared in a children’s book and recently won the hearts of the nation when he was a secret special guest at the queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations. The sketch with the Queen and Paddington bear has been the most talked about event of the whole celebration.
Suitable for children aged three and over the set comprises of over 100 felt pieces, one background board and a sheet with some scene ideas for you to recreate. Some of the felt pieces are black outline drawings on coloured felt and some look more like a photograph printed on felt and can all be mixed and matched to create one picture.  The bottom part of the box is separated into four compartments making it easy to store the felt pieces in their separate colours, and helping children develop sorting skills. The felt pieces stick firmly to the background board but are not permanent and can be easily moved to make new scenes over and over again and it can be used almost anywhere, so a handy thing to take with you when you think you may need to keep a child entertained for a while when your out of the house.  I’m thinking when your traveling or going for appointments. I can also see it being a useful toy to take when visiting other houses that may not have a selection of toys. This set will provide lots of creative fun as the child creates lots of Paddington bear scenes.
