That’s Life: The Frank Sinatra Story at the Grove Theatre Dunstable Review

Wasn’t I the lucky one being chosen to review the above show. Upon taking our extremely good seats in Stalls Row B my guest and I noticed an instant buzz of excitement in the audience, lots of couples and families out for fantastic Saturday nights’ entertainment (and so lovely to witness a few that looked nearer their 80’s, 90’s still getting out for a Saturday night!). We could easily have been in a little jazz nightclub in either Vegas, New York or at amongst the audience at the Royal Festival Hall in the UK, many of the places Frank Sinatra performed back in the day. A true legend with such beautiful songs, I remember my folk often playing whilst growing up (amongst Dean Martin, The Carpenters, Elvis to name a few).

The show was a little different from a normal tribute show. The evening consisted of a slide show going through the timeline and biography of Frank Sinatra. I was amazed at all the facts I learnt about such a fantastic icon from such a significant period and era of music.

The evening consisted of a beautifully arranged collection of Frank Sinatra’s biggest hits including, I’ve Got You Under my Skin, Fly Me to the Moon, Come Fly with Me, My Way (one of my favourites), New York, New York (everyone’s favourite) and of course That’s Life. That’s Life is a brand new theatre production celebrating one of the biggest icons ever and I wish them every success going forward celebrating the life of Frank Sinatra, and I hope you return to the Grove Theatre real soon.

The evening consists of a beautiful tale showing you his rise and fall to fame with some really intriguing twists I had no idea about before so a bit of a music history lesson at the same time as enjoying such a pleasant evening. The evening went amazingly quick which is always a sign of a good night. Frank Cognoscenti had a very convincing voice and took to the stage very well in each song along with a superb backing band (Frank’s Place Jazz Orchestra) and conductor.

Value for money, worth every penny and recommended. If you get the chance to see this beautiful show spread the word amongst family and friends for a great night’s entertainment. I will most definitely go and watch this again.
