The show was at the lovely Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, an old theatre that retains its old world charm inside. Seemingly a fitting venue.

The play was a sparkling rendition compiled from some of P.G Wodehouse’s funniest and most charming books, but in this case with a hilarious twist. If you know of Jeeves & Wooster, you know you will be in for some fun and silly scrapes from the off.

The play consisted of 3 actors playing many different characters to enable the telling of a story, from the amiable and somewhat doolally Bertie Wooster. With the assistance of Jeeves & Seppings we were treated to a hilarious, farcical, chaotic and thoroughly enjoyable romp through a crazy weekend of madcap antics.

Wooster recounts to the audience a situation he got himself into recently with all the usual potty characters created by P.G Wodehouse. With petty theft, policeman’s helmets, country houses, mad aunts, affairs of the heart and the alluring cow creamer at every turn!

Wooster, played by James Lance, Jeeves, played by John Gordon Sinclair and Seppings, played by Robert Goodale, all played their roles to perfection, and exhaustion! Jeeves & Seppings both played the multitude of male and female characters with huge enthusiasm and with great gusto. With the audience being a part of the mayhem and frivolities the impression of a ‘ham’ production became part of the fun. With some VERY funny scheme changes, costume changes, visual gags and props the show rapidly demonstrated a unique way to present a vintage stage comedy. As a P.G fan the show was true to the books and the spirit of The Woosters was very much on show. The actors brought the characters to life once again to great effect.

All in all a tremendously enjoyable, hilarious, silly vintage comedy that was terrific fun.

In the immortal words of Bertie, what a spiffingly good jape what!
