Melissa & Doug Band in a Box Review

I love music and musical instruments so was overjoyed to be chosen to review the Band in a Box by Melissa & Doug. Yes, I know this is a children’s box but there is no reason why I cannot also enjoy playing with the instruments with my granddaughter. After all, if we keep on practising, we could be the next girl band!
The Band in a Box is fantastic, it looks great very eye catching. Inside the box is a clacker, tone block, a triangle, tambourine, 2 maracas, 2 cymbals. So an array of very exciting easy to play musical instruments.
The box is made of wood so an ideal storage container to keep the instruments in.
The clacker is made of wood in primary colours, the main body being red and one side blue the other green. So very bright and attractive.
The tone block consists of 2 wooden pieces that are very robust. You can strike or scrape it with the beater to make various sounds, this instrument is very popular with young school children.
The triangle speaks for itself really it is a triangular shape made out of metal that you hit with a metal rod and it makes a noise that resembles a ding.
As for the tambourine it is made out of plastic and has symbols around it that make a sound when you hit it with your hand.
I love maracas and these are very brightly coloured, red, green, yellow and blue, so you and your child can calypso around the house making a lovely sound and of course you must dance.
Lastly 2 small metal symbols, with a wooden handle they are ideal for tiny hands.
It does say the instruments are for ages 3 plus as long as you supervise your child and they are able to hold things in their hands I feel they can use all of these, with little coordination.
Every one of the musical instruments are solid and seem very safe.
This set is really great fun and such good value for money.
It would make an ideal gift especially for Christmas, it actually looks more expensive then it is.
I have previously brought other toys supplied by Melissa & Doug and they really are superb quality.
Melissa & Doug are an American founded company they originally worked in a garage to make the toys and used Doug’s fathers station wagon to make deliveries. They have certainly come a long way since then as their products are sold all over the world and are a firm favourite of parents and their children. They now have offices in Connecticut where each product has a handmade prototype which has to be just right before they produce it. The couple have six children who test out all of the toys, what a great job!
They have a fantastic mission statement which is to provide a launch pad to ignite imagination and a sense of wonder in all children so they can discover themselves, their passions and their purpose.
