Upon receiving the parcel, the first thing that struck me when I opened it was the presentation, it felt like a premium product, which is also reflected in the price point. The synergy between the branding across all items was lovely and made it feel special – it would make a lovely gift. The package was comprised of a structured box with 3 cans of antioxidant revitaliser drink in a lime flavour and a card with some further information regarding the ingredients and features and a second card that acted as a complement slip with contact information and social media accounts. There was also a bag for easy gifting, like the type you would buy for wine, but sized specifically for the box of drinks. One thing that was slightly disappointing was that the cards and the cans and box were all crisp white whereas the bag was more of a cream colour. This obviously is not why you’d buy the drink, but if I were asked for a critique of the packaging this is the only point that really stood out as slightly jarring.
The INNERJI cans were 250ml and displayed the main properties of the drink easily. Considering there was so much information I felt it was easy to digest and not overcrowded. Around the top of the can listed important information for those that are conscious of what goes into their drinks – 100% taurine free, 100% caffeine free as well as the flavour. Another ingredient mentioned several times on the can was jiaogulan, which is not something that I have seen in anything else I’ve had so I was intrigued as to the taste it would provide. The can mentioned that the Chinese refer to it as the “immortality herb” as well as it being a prized source of antioxidants. What was also mentioned but more hidden was that it was also a source of vitamins, which I was not expecting and might have been nice to include more prominently on the can. Similarly, I watched the video on the INNERJI website under about us and learnt that jiaogulan claims to reduce high cholesterol, lower high blood pressure and improve heart function. This would have been nice to be included on the information card as it is a unique selling point in my opinion.
The INNERJI lime flavour drink was gently sparkling rather than being overpoweringly fizzy. In terms of taste there was definite lime and a refreshing flavour comparable to mint and cucumber combined. Comparing it to energy drinks and other revitalising options on the market this felt more natural tasting with none of the chemical aftertaste. The first can I drank in an evening after a busy day and I did feel as though the revitalising properties it claimed were justified.
Possibly not as intended to be consumed, but another of the cans I tried as a mixer with gin and would entirely recommend it. A collaboration along these lines might work well and would appeal as a Christmas gift idea to a wider market. However, on its own I am not sure if it would consider it as such other than perhaps a gym goer. However, if I saw it on a restaurant menu or in a fridge at a premium food and drink establishment or supermarket, I would certainly pick this up.
Considering the cost of the products I do feel the taste justified the price. The jiaogulan ingredient is something nice for those that like to try something new and they would be pleasantly surprised with the delicate flavour.
