My husband and I went for a meal at the Warden Tavern on a busy Friday evening. On arrival the manager greeted us and made us aware that the kitchen extractor fan was not working and that the restaurant was a little smoky – he was very apologetic for this.
He showed us to our table which was in a quiet part of the restaurant. Our table was clean and nicely presented with a candle centre piece and cutlery/napkins. He told us what the soup of the day was and other specials not featured in the menu, he also showed us the menu pointing out the various sections (starters, mains, sides, desserts etc…). He took our drinks order and told us who our waitress was for the duration of our meal. Our drinks arrived promptly followed a few moments later by our waitress who introduced herself and took our meal order.
We both had garlic breaded mushrooms to start which came promptly and well presented with 2 dips of our choice and a side garnish. The mushrooms were delicious and we both enjoyed them, they were piping hot and full of flavour. Moments after finishing our starters the waitress cleared away our plates and checked we were OK for drinks.
An adequate amount of time passed until we received our main dishes (approx. 15 minutes). My husband had the Ultimate 16oz Steak Platter with bottomless spicy chips, Beefeater speciality butter, half a grilled tomato and a flat mushroom and Creamy peppercorn and brandy sauce. I had the 8oz Sirloin Steak with bottomless chips, onion rings and a side salad.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal – his steaks were all cooked exactly to his liking, the portion size was big, the rest of his food choices were all cooked and presented well. My steak was cooked to perfection and again the rest of my food choices were all cooked and presented well. We both agreed that our steaks were the best we had tasted.
During the course of our main meal the waitress and the manager both checked that our steaks were cooked how we liked and we were happy with our meals.
For dessert we shared a Warm Chocolate Fudge Brownie with Ice-Cream which was lovely! We both thoroughly enjoyed it and was a perfect way to finish our meal.
To summarise I would highly recommend this restaurant, the restaurant and facilities were very clean, the service we received from the staff was fantastic – They were friendly and made you feel relaxed in the environment. The quality of the food was excellent and I feel is of good value in price.
Even though the extractor fan was not working I felt that the staff dealt with this situation well and it did not affect my dining experience. My husband and I had a great evening and we will definitely be returning soon!
