When I’m on a health kick, I can count calories but what I can never seem to do is hit my protein. I’ve been on the lookout for a snack that would help, that would perhaps too, satisfy my sweet-tooth. Cue the Warrior Crunch bar. This multi-layered, low carb, high protein bar has been a revelation!
I’m somewhat of a chocoholic and whilst on a healthy eating plan, the Cadburys and Mars of the world are off limits, I do need to work in a treat or two, preferably of the cacao seed nature. I’ve tried similar products with healthy, nutritional profiles that still offer the chocolate bar experience, but never have I been so convinced and satisfied, as by the Warrior.
I received a box of 12 Raspberry Dark Chocolate Raspberry Warrior Crunch Bars to sample; a flavour that I would have most certainly chosen; perhaps alongside the Milk Chocolate Coconut and Salted Caramel. I’m not sure I would have been tempted by Key Lime Pie but a Multi-Pack featuring a variety of flavours may convince my tastebuds otherwise. I’m definitely going to put an order in.
But for now, back to the Dark Chocolate Raspberry. My first thought was based on how big and heavy the bars are. I believed they’d blow my daily allowance of calories out of the water! However, each bar has just 239 calories – an acceptable low sugar snack with a very high 20g of protein. The bars are perfect protein pick-me-ups; a snack that will see you through to the next meal time and up your protein game. In fact, I never thought I’d say this about a ‘chocolate bar’ but it’s almost too big. Don’t get me wrong, I always finished a whole one but the bars could be a little heavy and perhaps enjoyed as a post-exercise treat as opposed to a pre-workout boost. I’m not convinced that the bar is a suitable sports’ supplement, in that after consuming one, I barely felt like exercising, let alone considered its ability to improve my athletic performance! The Warrior did however, save me from lethargy following a workout.
The Warrior Crunch isn’t exactly what the name suggests. There isn’t much ‘snap’ to it; the bars even describe themselves as having a triple layer of ‘gooey’ goodness. Crunch? Gooey? Which is it? The raspberry filling is definitely soft but decadently so; in much the same way as a luxury chocolate bar. I missed any crunch. But the opulence that this bar seems to unusually offer, means I found myself thinking that a box of these would make for a great present for an exercise fiend, amateur athlete or gym bunny; a birthday, Christmas, Mother’s or Father’s Day gift.
Unlike many other protein bars, the Warrior Crunch definitely feels more of a treat rather than a chocolate bar substitute. The Dark Chocolate Raspberry is pretty delicious; it has that richness about it that luxury chocolates also carry. Whilst I’m not adverse to a cereal bar as breakfast on the go, I’m not sure as tasty as it is, that I’d manage a Warrior before 11am.
Warrior Crunch bars are the result of over 12 months of research and development to blend high protein and low carbs, with gooey caramel and chocolate. They have almost the same amount of protein in them as a chicken breast but taste like a posh pudding! Definitely worth a try for those who don’t want to give up a sweet treat but who do want to keep their diet on the healthier side. After all, with just 2.3g of sugar and 2.3g of impact carbs, the bar has been designed with athletes, dieting and eating clean in mind.
A box of 12 bars is priced at £19.95. Buying ‘chocolate bars’ in bulk isn’t something I’d generally do and as a result, the price of these protein bars seems a little steep. However, I’ve done the maths, and working out at £1.66 a bar, that’s a heck of a lot cheaper than buying ‘one-off’ bars off the shelf at a supermarket. A surprising, sound investment.
If you love chocolate, want to up your protein and are keen to stay lean, I’d definitely recommend you give Warrior Crunch Bars a go. Take the bait and give one a bite!
