Scrumbles Cool Cat Cat Food Review

Reviewed by Jenny Seymour

The food arrived really well-packaged in a plastic envelope as well as the recyclable packaging the food itself comes in.

The packet itself is well designed and resealable for freshness, as you would hope with dry food. Rather than encouraging recycling though, Scrumbles encourage “destructions”! Don’t worry it’s not bad – they encourage the cat to tear open the bag, play with it and rip it to shreds! Nice!

They even have innovative names for each brand – the fish meal is called “Cool Cats” – nice touch.

My cat has recently lost his brother in an accident and has been moping around a bit to say the least, so I was pleased to get the opportunity to review the new Scrumbles cat food. It was so nice when I poured his first bowl and he simply wolfed it down!

We sampled the fish version, but this is actually a blend of chicken and salmon with a large amount of chicken in it, so you do need to read the label before you buy – but interestingly I had never done that before on my normal “other brand” cat food and it is interesting what is in there! A huge long list of things you may not have identified before!?

It is so lovely to read the composition label and see all the natural products that are in this cat food. Not only is this food gluten free, but it has added probiotics in for their gut and has no “hidden nasties”! You can see from their website that over a year of testing went into the development of the menus for Scrumbles and it’s nice to know that someone is investing time into our pets that are as much a part of our family as we are!

There is some lovely feeding advice on the side of the packet, which sets out how much different cats would need. You still need to measure out each meal, but it explains that if you are new to this recipe, then you may want to move over gradually over 7-10 days. Again, it is nice to see the care that has gone into thinking about the cats in preparing this food and the whole package. There is even more advice on the website itself.

At around £6.99 for 750g (50g sample bags are available for £1), it is more expensive than ordinary supermarket or branded cat food. However, it’s not much more expensive than the previously known “better” brands, such as Iams etc. If you want to treat your pets with the love that you treat your family, this is indeed the food they need. We need to appreciate that you need to spend a little bit more on either organic food or food that has been prepared locally and locally sourced. It’s the same with food for our pets! I believe this is an affordable price for high quality cat food. I may still give my cat a mixed diet of wet and dry food but will be speaking to Scumbles about how to give my cat a well-balanced diet from now on! Thank you Scrumbles!

Scrumbles is available not just on their website, but from Ocado and other retailers and they offer FREE delivery on orders over £25 – why not check it out. And for those that prefer dogs, they even do a range of dog food!

In this day and age of organic produce, it is nice to see wholesome food for our pets that doesn’t cost the earth – and my cat seems to love it!
