Having never owned or used a dash cam before I was happy to be given the opportunity to review the cobra smart sc100.

The dash cam arrived well packaged, the main box gives a list of items included sc100, 8gb SD card, magnetic windshield mount, 12v-24v power cable, micro usb cable.

On opening the box the flap lid reveals a QR code linking you straight to the Drive Smarter app which can be downloaded via google play for android or apple store for iOS, this is really quick and easy to install.
You then need to register to be able to use the app, again quick and easy to do and once verified via email you are ready to fit and connect the dash cam.

The dash cam came with the sd card already inserted, all I needed to do was to attach the magnetic windshield mount via the strong adhesive sticker supplied. The cable plugs in to the device easily, then the other end plugs into a 12v power point. The dash cam has the ability to be hard wired but you would have to purchase the additional kit to do this.

Once switched on I had to connect it to my phones bluetooth as well as the Wi-Fi. The dash cam makes multiple ding sound notifications when connected these can be turned off within the app settings.

The built in gps automatically picks up your location which can be viewed in maps. But I was trying for ages to view the video live feed, receiving messages that it would not connect, then it would be buffering, I kept reverting to the manual that I easily found online but I was doing every thing it stated, I decided to take a look at other peoples reviews to see if they had any problems during set up, which I then came across one that said check the firmware for updates, this can be found within the app settings and yes it required an update. This took 30 seconds to update and download fixing the problem I was having instantly and finally my phone connected to the dash cams live feed.

You can easily access your phone to look back at the cameras feed or on a laptop you can use the sd card to view. The picture quality is really good and clear to see. The sd card works on a loop therefore as it fills up it automatically deletes old recordings. If there is a particular recording you are needing to keep there is a lock recording function so it can be permanently saved.

The dash cam can be removed for storing away very quick and easily with it been attached via the strong magnetic mount, it really is plug and play.

I feel the cobra sc100 is a mid range cam, easy to use and really good quality for the price, it would make a lovely gift for someone for a special occasion such as a birthday or upcoming Father’s Day, especially for that gadget loving person.
