It’s panto season again at last and you shall go to the ball with Cinderella at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury.
The Waterside Theatre has once again opened its doors and I was invited to review. The traditional modern and funny Cinderella Waterside has lots of parking nearby and is an absolutely lovely theatre and along with making fabulous memories has all the facilities to ensure they are following all guidelines in line with the latest government guidance at all times. Lots of hand sanitiser stations are available and proof of Covid pass lateral flow tests etc to be shown on arrival.
The director Chris Nelson has directed seven of Waterside pantomimes and is the man behind the magic and fills The theatre year after year with happiness and laughter. Chris Nelson also plays Gemma hard up one of the ugly sisters And looks perfect in his many dresses and wigs. The costumes in the show I thought looked amazing as did the set and the props. No expense spared and no corners are cut.
Gemma Naylor was the perfect Cinderella, beautiful, elegant and had a lovely voice. Unfortunately she got injured and the understudy Shannon Rothwell had to step in and what a performance. She gave it her all and fitted in perfectly. I’m sure she will be a leading lady In lots of future productions.
Of course this year was superb and Mark Rhodes who is best known from CBBC as half of the Duo of presenters Sam and Mark played Dandini and BBC Three counties radio Andy Collins was the hilarious Buttons, quick witted and a joy to see.
My favourite was the brilliant funny and drop dead gorgeous LA VOIX As the fairy godmother. LA VOIX is a comedian and a singer and has been a regular at Waterside for eight years and is also known for being a royal favourite from Britain’s got talent. The near the mark jokes and banter had the audience laughing out loud and my twins being 15 years old now realise why I’ve always laughed so much at panto humour.
Now Prince Charming lived up to his name and charm. Regan Burke was handsome and sweet and looked as dashing as you would expect Prince Charming to be.
Nick Harris was Cinderella’s dad Baron hard up and was also very funny, as was Kristopher Milnes Cinderella’s other ugly sister.
The story of Cinderella is a traditional fairy tale of love and of course marriage with lots of singing and dancing and of course the path of true love never runs smoothly but there’s always a happy ending which included some brilliant singing and dancing.
Rating: We had a fantastic night and recommend booking your tickets as it’s a brilliant family event I give it 5 stars
