Destiny Calling by Catherine Scott Review

Reviewed by Louisa Nashir
I was recently asked to read and review Catherine Scott’s brand new book Destiny Calling and after reading a little about the book I couldn’t wait for a copy to be emailed to me. It arrive in my email inbox in a grey drizzly Bank Holiday Monday so used it as an excuse to put my feet up and read it.
The story is full of interesting characters all with very different lives but their hearts are certainly all in the right place.
The books main character is Bethany or Beth as she is known, a very timid young girl who has built a barrier around herself after her dad was left wheelchair bound after a car crash. Beth shut herself off from everyone at school, worried about people meeting her dad and judging him.
One day a bold and brash new girl starts at the school named Destiny, Beth is wary of her and gets quite paranoid that the new girl and her friend are mocking her. This couldn’t be further from the truth and throughout the book you see Beth beginning to lower her barriers and let Destiny into her life and she tells her about her dad and how she wishes he could go to America for an operation to help him walk again.
The girls come up with a plan for this to happen but what happens a next will really pull at your heart strings and leave you smiling.
I am not going to tell you what happens as it will ruin the story for you so I suggest you buy a copy of this wonderful feel good story and find out!
Even though the book is for young adults I enjoyed it very much at the age of 31 and will be keeping my eye out for more from Catherine Scott.
A lovely short story which I thoroughly recommend.
