As a child over thirty years ago, Sylvanian Families were always on the top of every Christmas and Birthday list. I collected and kept my beloved figures and their accessories in the loft until my own children were old enough to play with them. It’s funny how many people who had these figures in the 80s and 90s will seek them out for their own children. What a testament to the company. The quality was always fantastic and I can confirm that they still have the same amazing quality and robustness as they always had.
I have always loved the idea that these little animals live in an ideal world, peaceful, friendly and they all have a role to play. These little animals seem locked in time and I love that my children can experience such a well thought out collection of families and buildings who don’t rely on electronics or social media. It really opens up the imagination and allows for a wider range of play themes.
This Easter set is adorable! Perfect for an Easter gift instead of chocolate, or as a gift for any collector. The box is a lovely and simple spring design featuring pastel colours and flowers. The contents are easily visible and easy to get out from the plastic.
It consists of two super cute bunny figures named Serena & Romeo Marguerite. One wearing a little purple, silk suit with a plastic purple hat. It’s shirt complete with a little daisy decoration. The other wears a cream and green silk dress, with a pink felt hat and bow with daisy decoration. The details to the clothing are just gorgeous and very well made. Their clothes are also fully removeable should you want to pop them in a different outfit or clean them. The figures are fully poseable and even have teeny details like molded paws and tiny pink noses! After a little research it seems these two beautiful bunnies are brother and sister.
The bunnies also come with three little Easter eggs which open so that you can hide a little plastic sweet inside. It really is charming and my children loved hiding the sweets (and other tiny toys) inside the eggs and playing Easter bunnies with this set. My son has already invited his playmobil and other small figures for an Easter egg hunt which shows how well they can be integrated with other toys and work so well during imaginative play. The bunnies apparently like to time travel on the back of the Delorean to make their deliveries on time!
This set is aimed at children aged 3 and above, this is due to the small parts included being small enough to be swallowed. The sweets and eggs are quite small, the sweets smaller than a baked bean. The bunnies themselves however are much larger, standing about three inches (around eight cm tall) including their ears. I just love their fuzzy fur!
Rating: Of course I give this set a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It is wonderful, yes Sylvanians are on the pricier side of the toy market but I feel the quality, detail and playability of these sets justifies the cost. (of course this is just my opinion and from having both cheaper brands and these in the past I can confirm that they mix really well with other brands if you want to have a bit of both). Personally though, I’d choose official Sylvanian every time.
You can find them here with an RRP of £21.99. At this cost you’re looking at just over £10 per figure, so it might be nice to include a few extra accessories or even just a couple of extra little eggs but it is still a lovely set.
