I’ve recently been sent this interesting game to review. The fact it’s Super Mario was an instant appeal factor to my 7 year old son who couldn’t wait to open it up and have a go.

The box is sturdy but easy to access. With the pieces slotted into plastic sheeting. This looks great aesthetically and protects the pieces before the game is opened – however once the game has been played with, the packaging is unnecessarily cumbersome/awkward to keep it stored in, too big to make it easy to transport to take in holidays etc (great game for rainy caravan days, or balconies abroad!)

Of course, this was easily rectified by instead storing in a pouch we had from another game – but a bag/smaller box would have been an ideal addition to the set.

The instructions are simple and easy to follow for both adults and kids – my seven year old could read the instructions and worked out quickly how to play the game. There’s also a QR code you can scan if you’d prefer an online tutorial for the game.

I say “the game” but actually there are 3 different ways of playing, which makes this game even better as we ended up trying them all, meaning the play went on for longer. This is great if your kid gets bored quickly, or has too much screen time. Once we’d played one version, he wanted to try the next!

At first, I thought it would be an easy game and probably too simple for my 7 year old. I thought it would be better geared more towards the 4 year old mark – however, I’m not ashamed to admit that it was trickier than it looked! So don’t be fooled!

The aim of the game(s) is to stack the caps without them toppling over. It’s another take on other games released over the years but it’s a fun take. The pieces are sturdy meaning they can (luckily!) withstand the constant crashing down they do when the tower inevitably wobbles. The cap playing pieces belong to different characters from the Super Mario franchise such as Mario himself, Luigi, Princess Peach, Waluigi and more. The pack also includes cards and a stand which aid both the different variations of the game.

Even once official play was over – my son still enjoyed playing with the hats for imaginative play using some of his actual Mario figurines. I can imagine boys and girls alike could find multiple ways to play with these other than just the standard game itself.

As well as being fun, of course this game also serves another purpose – helping develop balancing skills as well as hand to eye coordination skills.

The quickness and ease of which the game can be set up is a huge positive factor for me. I hate games that take ages to set up, ages to read the rules and ages to finish. This can be a quick 5 minute game before tea or you could spend an hour on a rainy day playing it. It’s versatile in so many different ways.

Overall, a hit from our Mario loving family.
