I honestly will admit I aren’t the most techno savvy person around but with three daughters between the ages of 11 and 18 who don’t go anywhere without their smartphones I knew this would be something that my daughters would like and use. Two of my daughters have their own YouTube channel where they post videos they create about anime (which is their latest obsession). They spend hours making, editing and posting videos or watching videos that have been posted by others online. They currently have a large bulky and heavy ring light and separate microphone they use to create videos but these are not always the most practical as they take up a lot of room and definitely are not something you would use on the move.

The Studio Creator Podcast & Vlogging Kit came in a much smaller box than I expected but this is because the kit is modular and comes in separate parts that are interchangeable and you put together yourself. This was quick and easy to do and my 11 year old did this herself literally in minutes. The kit includes a smartphone holder, microphone, LED light, audio cable and table tripod / portable grip. To create the kit you simply pull out the legs side wards on the tripod to create the base, screw the smartphone holder to tripod, the light then slots into the top of the smartphone holder and has a screw to tighten it securely, the microphone similarly slots into the top of the light and has a screw to tighten it securely and then plug in the audio cable to back of noise reduction microphone and the kit is ready to use. It honestly is so simple and quick to assemble. There are full instructions included in the box explaining all this in detail.

Once the kit is ready to use you simply place your smartphone in the holder. The top of the smartphone holder lifts up and down on a spring so that it holds the phone securely. Then attach the audio cable to the audio jack in your phone. The LED light requires 3 AAA batteries, which are not included. These fit into the battery compartment on the back of the light. The LED light has 3 levels of brightness so you can choose the level that suits your surroundings best and is very bright for such a small light. You turn on the light by pressing the little button on the back of the light and press it again to change the brightness or turn it off. The smartphone holder can swivel from side to side and you can adjust the angle of the stand by pressing the central spring button on the tripod on both sides at the same time and move the stand up or down to the required angle for your video.

The kit can also be used handheld by simply folding in the legs and pressing the central spring button on the tripod on both sides and pulling down the tripod legs to create a handle. The ability to change the kit to handheld is where I felt the kit really excelled in that you could make videos or live stream on the go and still have the light and microphone to give your videos a professional edge. As all the pieces of the kit slot / screw together it means you can use them in different combinations. For example you can use it as simply a microphone by attaching the microphone directly on the tripod or slot the microphone on the phone holder directly if you don’t need the light.

My girls made two identical videos, one just using their phones and a standard phone stand to record the video and another using the studio creator kit, there was a clear difference. The video lighting and sound and getting the correct angle for the video was much easier and clearer using the kit. It was so much quicker to use the kit than to set a separate ring light and microphone and I can definitely see this being my girls new go to kit when creating their videos.

Ideal for creating custom videos for all sorts of social media platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat. You can use the kit to both create your videos and leave your phone in the tripod smartphone holder whilst you edit them ready to share. The kit has so many other uses such as using it for photo booths, selfies, video scrapbooking or capturing personal videos / memories.

The kit would be suitable for beginners wanting to try vlogging or more experienced vloggers alike, both children and adults. It is quite compact and light making it easy to pack up and take along places with you. Retailing at £19.99 this is affordable for all and I’m sure anyone who is interested in vlogging or podcasting or simply creating social media content or videos would love this set.
