StaySharp Commuter Cuff Review

Reviewed by Tricia Shaw
Have you ever been faced with the dilemma of what trousers to wear when cycling? Do you go for that unflattering look of tucking your trouser leg into a sock and hoping it stays put; rolling it up (only for it to fall down again); or risk catching the flapping material in the chain and gears? More modern and stylish and less geeky than traditional cycling clips and Velcro straps, the StaySharp Commuter Cuff will solve the problem for you. Made from 100% urethane and coated in nylon it is extremely lightweight and is small enough to fold up easily to fit into your pocket on arrival.
The commuter cuff is extremely easy to use; simply gather your trousers and place the cuff around your ankle closing it with the Velcro strip. At 5cm wide there is room for adjustment to ensure it is comfortable whilst still keeping your trousers secure and as it closes on the right hand side it doesn’t risk being caught as you walk or cycle. You only really need to use one but there is nothing to stop you purchasing a second to use on the other leg.
As the name suggests it is designed for adults and as such is sold as “One size fits most”. Nonetheless we all know that adults come in many different sizes and the thickness of clothes adds yet another dimension to the question of whether this is right for any one individual. So as a guide when closed using the full 5cm of Velcro it measures a circumference of approx. 40 cm around the bottom and is tapered to around 30 cm at the top.
The packaging is simple but perfectly adequate to keep it clean in transit. The commuter cuff is available in a variety of colours (black, khaki, denim and slate) which blend in well with everyday clothes and all of these have a reflective strip on
the back, however if visibility is high on your list of priorities it is also available in alert.
A couple of slight drawbacks are that whilst it keeps your trousers clean, the cuff itself is handwash only and although it claims to help keep laces out of the chain this will depend on how you secure them.
It is a good quality item which more than adequately meets its brief.
