Two hours of dazzling lighting systems, fabulous costumes and feet tapping songs – it was just brilliant! Starlight Express is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's longest running musicals (first performed in 1984 at The Apollo Victoria Theatre) in theatrical history and as it explodes back onto the stage at Salford's Lowry Lyric Theatre you had better buckle up.
A story of love, strength and hope in the face of adversity in the form of a competition between steam, diesel and electric powered trains.
The audience really got behind Rusty, the love struck underdog train right from the very beginning, and in moments when we were asked to put on 3D glasses to view the train races on a huge screen, there was no way we couldn't get involved! I found myself willing Rusty to triumph and win the girl!!
The very impressive roller-powered choreography was created by Arlene Phillips and was quite mesmerising.
Whilst it's on the stage in Manchester this June, Starlight Express is a must see show.
