I love curries but have never really tried making one from scratch before as I don’t keep a lot of spices in my cupboards as my pet hate is buying ingredients that only get used once and then sitting in the back of my cupboard until they go out of date, which is such a waste. I was therefore really pleased to receive a tin of goodies from Spice Pots containing all the spices I needed to create some delicious curries and Indian food.
Before the tin arrived, I had a look at the Spice Pots website to find out a little more about the company and discovered that they were founded back in 2014. The founder had spent time in India and wanted to bring the secrets of creating an authentic curry back home to the UK. With the aim of wanting to help people make their own delicious curries and Indian-inspired food at home she has created a selection of perfectly balanced spice blends, meaning that it is simple to create tasty authentic tasting meals at home, even for someone with little cooking experience.
This delightful gift set is presented in a lovely oblong tin, the lid is decorated with flowers with the Spice Pots logo in the centre and has a removeable ‘Happy Fathers Day’ sleeve, making it the perfect gift for a loved one. Inside the tin were five different 40g spice blends, Korma, Bhuna, Sweet Spice, Tandoori Masala, Goan as well as a candle to help mask the cooking smells – what a fantastic idea! The spices and candle are all in little metal tins and there was also a recipe book with a huge selection of delicious sounding recipes. I flicked through the recipe book and was spoilt for choice, all the dishes sounded lovely however after a lot of deliberation we settled on Chicken Bhuna, one of our favourite takeaway meals. Luckily the recipe only required chicken, ginger, garlic, tinned tomatoes, and spinach, all ingredients I had already, so I was able to try it out straight away. The instructions are really simple and easy to follow, it only took 30 minutes to prepare and cook the meal so I was really impressed.
We served the Chicken Bhuna with Naan bread and rice and the whole family loved it, it was flavoursome and had just the right kick to it.
Next we tried the Goan Chicken Curry with Lentils, again we had all the ingredients in and my son made this for us. He said it was really easy to make and there were 4 clean plates at the end of the meal so this speaks for itself!
There are handy tips with each recipe which I found really useful, things like take your time cooking the onions as it helps the flavour or suggestions of adding extra vegetables that children won’t spot!
Each tin contains enough spices for 8 servings but don’t worry when you run out of spices, you can easily purchase refills from the website. With 80 different recipes to try this is a gift that any foodie Dad (and family) will enjoy for a very long time!
