Smiggle – Just Be You Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

I have loved stationery since I was a young child and my 7-year-old twins are the same. They love drawing and writing with my stationery items as well as their own. That said, until recently their own stationery collection was quite boring and generic. Not anymore! Where has Smiggle been all our lives? I have to admit to dreamily passing Smiggle stores and window shopping their eye-catching products for quite some time now. My little boys and I were therefore over the moon and excited to be offered some Smiggle products to review. We even got to visit their Trafford Centre, Manchester store to pick out the ones we wanted.

The Smiggle store is easy to locate within Manchester’s Trafford Centre (you can your nearest Smiggle store using the store finder on the Smiggle website here). There are plenty of friendly staff on hand to help should you require assistance.  All of the staff I came across were very knowledgeable about the products too. They also clearly enjoyed their work at the store and took great pride in their roles.

On entering the store, what struck me first of all was the wonderful variety of products on offer and their beautiful colours. This truly helps you #justbeyou. There really is something for everyone. My twins went from shelf to shelf excitedly. After some discussion, they picked out their first item, a fashion stationery kit. This set contains a large pencil case, a notebook, novelty pen, 4 highlighters, 5 greylead pencils, 8 gel pens, a 30cm ruler, a sharpener and an eraser. The product’s dimensions are W34cm x H24.5cm. This set has an RRP of £18. My twins love this set. All of the products are clearly made from quality materials. The notebook is fantastic. You can remove and discard pages very easily and it looks so cool and funky. The colours are bright and inviting.

The next item we picked out was the Glitter Mark Park. This pack contains 10 glitter markers. We have had great fun with these over the weekend. They are good quality and should last for a decent length of time. The colours you get are beautiful. RRP £11.50 but they were in the sale reduced to £7.

The next item we selected was Far Away Scented Rainbow Pen, a pen with 10 scented rainbow colours. Both of my boys wanted one. This was a welcome relief as they have tended to keep pinching my own 4 colour pens. The scent is pleasant. The pen design is very cool and it is easy to change from one colour to another. RRP £3.50.

I felt it was time to update my little boys’ school lunchboxes. I was therefore delighted to see the wonderful range of lunchboxes and drinks bottles that Smiggle had available. After some discussion both of my sons settled on the Express Double Decker Lunchbox and the Viva Flip Spout Spritz Drink Bottle. The lunchbox is made from thick quality material. The design is very appealing for children. Like all of Smiggle’s designs, the lunchbox design has a really fun feel to it. The lunchbox is a double decker style one. There is a large insulated zip up compartment at the bottom and a smaller insulated zip up compartment at the top. At the top of the lunchbox is a handy carry handle which is comfortable to hold. The bottle is a straw type bottle where you fold the straw back down when the bottle is not in use. When I made the packed lunches for school this morning, I put the sandwiches in the bottom compartments and the banana and crisps in the top ones. In summer there would be plenty of room to pop an ice pack in the bottom compartment. The lunchboxes fitted perfectly into their school bags. The bottle is easy to fill, empty, clean and drink from. It looks so funky and cool. As a 40 something big kid I would use one myself. The drinks bottles fitted perfectly into the drinks holder on the side of their school bags. RRP £18 for the lunchbox and £15 for the drinks bottle.

The last two items my twins picked out were a Mint Bow Alphabet Keyring and a Reversey Fluffy Keyring. One of my twins loves anything sparkly and so this is perfect for him. The colour is stunning and the fabric clearly high quality. The other keyring is a football where the sequins can be moved to change them from one colour to another. The mint bow alphabet keyring has an RRP of £6 and the reversey fluffy keyring £6.

My boys and I were delighted with the products we got to review and it’s lovely that my little boys now have a more exciting stationery collection. Smiggle really know how to do fun products. Because prices start from just a few pounds, the products are perfect as a little treat or as a gift. There is 20% off at the moment but this does end today so I do recommend having a look on their website or popping down to one of their stores today.

5/5 for quality and value for money. Yes, you can buy cheaper items elsewhere, but these are so wonderful and well-made that it is worth the extra money.
