The London Borough of Hillingdon and DK proDuKtions presented Sleeping Beauty at the Compass Theatre in Ickenham, Uxbridge. Brilliantly written by Paul Prescott who also has television and film credits including Pie in the Sky, The Bill and Jane Eyre plus theatre shows Beauty is the Business, starring Faith Brown and Misery. The producer, David Kemp, has been independent since 2010 and divides his time producing and directing. The new thing this year is the animation which was done by Kara Darch and made a great addition to the show. Kara has a degree in animation and is also a local girl her artistic skills and experience with company’s such as Google and providing the animation at clubs and festivals meant the visual effects were a very cool addition to the show.
As this was a local production I was very impressed and my kids and I thought it was better than a lot of the big stage shows. The cast were fantastic, Millie-Rose Keutenius was Sleeping Beauty, she was beautiful and sang like an angel. She has been in some of the West End shows but I can see her on the big stage in the future. Chris Sheridan played two main parts, was funny and an amazing panto actor. My favourite in any panto has to be the pantomime dame and I was surprised to learn that James Barclay as Nanny Noreen was playing his first ever dame, he was amazing and I wish I could dance like him. The prince was Thomas Kemp and my girls’ favourite part was when he fought the dragon before being able to save Sleeping Beauty with a kiss, the animation here was very funny he also sang well and has been in the last 3 panto’s at the Compass Theatre.
Now we all know the story but the songs comedy and fabulous cast made this my favourite show ever. I’d give a 5/5 and say its great value for money and the most fun I had all year.
