My 16 year old daughter has suffered from problem skin for a few years now. She tends to get outbreaks of red angry looking and yellow pus filled spots on her face that she is very insecure about and tends to cover with make up. Over the years we have tried many different spot creams, facial washes and face masks with limited results. She is yet to find anything that works long term. She was even prescribed a medicated cream from her Doctor which made her skin peel off like sunburn but did not help her spots. So when I asked her to try Silicolskin she was sceptical to say the least.
Silicolskin is a colloidal, hydrated silica gel from the compounds silicon and oxygen, the two most abundant elements on earth.
Silicolskin physically binds and reduces bacteria as well as oil and impurities on the skin. This clears excess oil (sebum) and reduces spots and blackheads.
It is dermatologically tested for skin tolerance and has a 5 star rating. The formulation is alcohol and perfume free. I liked that it was perfume free as my daughter finds perfumed products tend to flare up her skin.
It arrived quickly through the post and there was some useful information leaflets included in the box along with the product.
As advised before first use my daughter did a small patch test to look for any reactions which there were none. My daughter does tends to have major breakouts at times of stress. She tried this product a couple of days after going back to school after lockdown and her face was quite angry with red spots. I think this was partially stress related and due to her wearing make up again everyday after not wearing it during lockdown. The gel was clear and quite thick so easy to apply. She used it as a face mask and covered her whole face with the gel but it can be applied just to affected areas. As per the instructions she wet her face and applied a thin layer of the gel. She left it on for 10-15 minutes (or until it turns white) and washed it off with water then patted her skin dry. She found it easily came off with just water. It felt tingly on her skin and caused some redness especially on first use but this went away within minutes. The packaging states
this is normal so she wasn’t concerned by the reaction.
Even from first use her skin felt softer, tighter, looked clearer (alot less oily) and some of the redness disappeared. She used it for 5 consecutive days (can be used a maximum of 5 times a week) and in that period she had no new spots appear. It cleared up the spots on her forehead which is one of her problem areas. Most of the remaining spots were mainly around her chin area but she is finding this a particularly problem area at the moment with having to wear a mask most of the day whilst at school. The spots on her chin were definitely smaller and less red than they were before using Silicolskin. Her overall skin was clearer and no longer looked oily. She did find her skin dried abit after a few applications but this was easily rectified with moisturiser.
She will definitely be continuing to use Silicolskin and hopefully with more use she will continue to see further results. It was hard to see the full results after just 5 days of use but it was definitely making a positive difference unlike some of the products she has tried in the past. I was very impressed you could see improvement after only one use. It can be used on face and body wherever spots are a problem. After using it for a week there was plenty left in the tube for more applications and I imagine one tube could last a couple of months with normal use. At £9.79 for 50 ml I thought this was a very reasonable price for a quality skin product.
