Shwings Shoe Wings Review
Shwings Shoe Wings
Reviewed by Emma Legge but tried and tested by ten year old Sophie
Sophie squealed with delight when I told her we were being sent some Shwings to review, she was so excited telling her dad and rolled her eyes when he asked what they were, “Duh!” she said, “Wings for my shoes, of course!”
They arrived bound by a plastic loop to a cardboard presenter in a blue and black minimalist design. The packaging worked well with the design of the product and allows it to be touched before buying which lets you feel the good quality material. The fabric is thick, not at all flimsy, allowing the wings to stand out from the shoe. It is in a funky metallic purple with a bright green edging, it’s also double sided, which is a great design feature as it allows you to use it on both sides of either shoe.
Sophie had had her favourite trainers that she got for Christmas at the ready ever since finding out she was getting the Shwings, and, as she was going straight out to a sleepover, the timing couldn’t have been better. It took just 5 minutes to attach both the wings through the laces on her trainers and, I have to say, they really did look fab! On arrival at the party, her friends immediately launched into a very loud rendition of ‘I believe I can fly!’ so they get marks for enjoyment value!
The response to the Shwings by the younger ‘tweenies’ (aged 9-12) was pretty much of awe…. they thought they were great! The older ones of around 12 plus have been a little less enthusiastic and have quite practically asked ‘what do they do?’ I would therefore put the age range at around 5-12 years old.
Sophie’s 8 year old brother asked if they do ‘boy’ colours so we’ve looked at the packaging which states there are 50 colours to collect, we’re guessing at least a few of them will do for boys! It also states that they’re great to ‘Trade & Collect’ but I personally feel that they’re slightly on the pricey side for the swapping craze and I wouldn’t want to spend £9.99 on something only for it to be traded the next day – I don’t mind with the odd trading card!
While I think they are a fun fashion item that I would happily buy as a present for the children’s friends for birthday presents, I feel there’s not a lot of need in owning more than one or two pairs, after all they don’t actually ‘do’ anything and my nephew was quite disappointed when he found out that they don’t actually make you fly!
Therefore I give them a 4 out of 5 but I should add that Sophie is standing over my shoulder shouting, ‘5 they’re a definite 5!’
