Shimmer Stars Review

We have recently been lucky enough to be asked to try out Shimmer Stars, and I’m not sure the kids have ever been quite so excited to get a toy unpacked and get their mitts on it! Shimmer Stars are a range of soft toys, but with a difference. There are four in the range: Panda, Kitten, Puppy and Unicorn, and they come with a raft of accessories that your child can share with their new pet. Whilst I’m not normally one for thinking that toys are gender specific, these are firmly aimed at little girls as they come with shimmering stars for creating sparkly hairstyles, along with a magic shimmer wand, a headband, bow and scrunchie!
First thing’s first – the soft toys are absolutely gorgeous – we were sent Pixie the Panda and Jelly Bean the Cat to try out. Pixie is s stunning little panda with gorgeous blue eyes, and she comes with a blue bow, sparkly blue tutu that your child can use as a scrunchie and a panda-ears headband, whereas Jelly Bean is a white cat who is styled with pink accessories and a very cute kitten-ears headband. Both of them also come with a star collar that doubles up as a bracelet, and a comb, plus the magic Shimmer Wand.
The Shimmer Wand contains over 200 shimmer sequins in a number of trendy shapes – hearts, flowers and stars, all in glorious multicolour. These are stored in the top part of the wand, and the bottom part detaches and becomes an applicator, which allows your child to apply the shimmers not only to their new pet’s fur but also to their own hair! These are attached without the need of any glue or anything sticky – the applicator basically clips them onto the hair or fur and they just comb out without tangling. They are also reusable, so as long as you are careful and put them back into their storage pot, they should last an awful long time.
We found that the applicator worked really well and the kids could get to grips with using it independently in no time – I would imagine most kids from the age of around four would be able to manage with this really well, even if they needed a little encouragement not to lose all of the shimmers! My girls loved these – being able to share the accessories was a big hit. The Shimmer Stars wear their sparkly tutus, which are designed to go in the kids’ hair as scrunchies. Equally, the hair bows that sit on top of the soft toy’s heads as a bow are attached to a bobble so they can share that too; even the star collars are designed to be worn as a bracelet for the kids!
As well as being incredibly cute, the soft toys are also very well made, and my youngest, in particular, is so keen on her new kitty that she has taken her to bed with her every night since she got her! Most little girls love cute pets, and they also love anything that sparkles and creating hair styles, so this toy combines all of these interests really well. The unicorn and puppy are also both gorgeous, and most little girls would love to find one of them underneath the Christmas tree in Christmas day!
