With Mother’s Day fast approaching, now is the time to think about how to treat that special someone in your life. While there are still the traditional choices of flowers and chocolates, why not add in a bottle of prosecco to help the celebrations. Sea Change wines, established in 2018, have created a delicious Rose prosecco that will delight every drinker – but especially the Mums! As an additional bonus, you will know you are giving a gift that is ethically sourced and eco-friendly; sales of the wine even help to fund ocean conservation projects.
Sea Change wines brand themselves as a small business with a big heart. They are passionate about the impact plastic pollution has on the world and have thought of many different ways that their product can help protect the oceans. This includes the minimal packaging that my bottle of Rose Prosecco arrived in, aiming to reduce waste and environmental impact. The outer box and insert of the packaging are made using recycled materials and are both biodegradable and compostable.
On examining the bottle closely, the plastic surrounding the cork has been removed. Instead the company use a renewable plant based closure, but don’t worry – it still gives a satisfying pop on opening! The labels surrounding the lighter weight glass bottles are carefully made with paper from certified sustainable forests. These stunning labels are like pieces of art, with images of beautiful hand drawn sea creatures containing hidden plastic items, reminding people why the creatures and their environment need protecting.
Sea Change have carefully selected their wines from vineyards in Italy and France that share their values. Their award winning Prosecco is described as being crisp yet delicate with aromas of peach and pear. I found it delicious and fruity both as a drink by itself then as an accompaniment to a seafood dish. I can imagine it would also work well as a dessert wine , but the bottle had been finished before I got to that course!
The wine is available to buy online or from certain stockists, there is a handy map on their website www.seachangewine.com to show your nearest stockist. Sea Change also offer carbon neutral deliveries for all UK orders. Individually the RRP is £12.99 per 75cl bottle, however three bottles of the Rose Prosecco (suitable for both vegetarians and vegans) can be purchased online for £34.97. I would rate this drink as 5/5 and will look forward to gifting and drinking more from the Sea Change company.
