Izmi Essential Baby Wrap Review

I had never tried a material baby wrap to support a baby before, but I had seen a few celebrities on social media using them and I was intrigued – they looked so comfortable for both the mother and the baby. I was therefore delighted to be able to review the Izmi Essential Wrap which is designed for babies weighing 2.3kg to 9kg (birth to around 9 months old).

The Izmi Essential Wrap comes packaged in a recyclable cardboard box with the dimensions 23cm x 17cm x 5cm so it is not quite small enough to fit through your letterbox. However, unlike some other products you receive, there was no excess packaging, no plastic wrapping and the product fitted seamlessly into the box with no room to spare. Inside the box was a material bag to keep the baby wrap in so you could recycle the cardboard packaging straight away.

Taking the Izmi Essential Wrap out of the box, I was immediately struck by how much material there was – the wrap was long and a little daunting at first! Luckily, the Izmi Essential Wrap came with a black and white, eight-page A5 guide booklet and within the booklet were 14 numbered, illustrated steps showing how to put the wrap on your body. Top tip: you want to make sure that you put the wrap on you in a clean area as I found the material draped on the floor at the very beginning of the ‘getting ready’ process. I was initially worried that I might make a mistake putting the wrap on considering that there were fourteen steps, but I was pleasantly surprised how well I got on and I was successful first time! I contribute my success to the succinct pictures. I did notice that the guide mentioned watching video clips about how to put the wrap on but when I put these web addresses into my search engine, they did not return a website. However, when I did a general search for the Izmi Essential Wrap, the videos came up on YouTube so were easy to locate. The paper booklet also contained lots of information about ensuring the baby’s safety and healthy hip positions – of paramount importance for anyone carrying their precious baby around.

When the baby was in the Izmi Essential Wrap, I felt comfortable to move around and get on with some chores in a ‘hands free’ way whilst baby was well supported. Because the wrap is purely made from soft material and does not contain any clips, buckles or grips, it was not as bulky as other wraps/slings, and I enjoyed the closeness of the contact and felt confident that baby was cosy.

The wrap is made from natural fabrics and is 95% cotton and 5% elastane. I found the wrap to be very soft and it washed well. I received the wrap in a dark grey colour and found that it went with whatever I was wearing.

I would definitely recommend the Izmi Essential Wrap to other parents or people buying new baby gifts as it was so comfortable to wear, supported baby and quickly became just another part of my ‘getting dressed’ routine.
