Revell Junior Kit Fire Truck Review

Reviewed by David Savage
We were asked to review a model building kit from Revell’s Junior Kit range. There are 5 different model vehicles in this range; Fire Truck, Off-Road Vehicle, Police Car, Roadster and Racing Car. We received the bright red Fire Truck!
These Junior Kits are aimed at children, aged 4 years +, and are simple and easy build kits for youngsters just starting out on building their own model kits. They have easy to screw together pieces and a child friendly plastic screwdriver. The Junior Kits are a beginner’s kit and have a skill level rating of 1 and are on a 1:20 scale.
Our Fire Truck contained 39 parts + 27 connecting pieces. The box states that it should take 45-60 minutes to build, but even with the help of 4 year old excited twins it took us only 40 minutes.
The instructions were very easy to follow and with supervision and my help the twins managed to help assemble it, even successfully screwing on the wheels.
Probably the most difficult part was adding the stickers on as some of them were quite fiddly.
Once fully assembled, we had a bright red fire truck that measured approx. 30cm. It was complete with opening doors and equipment compartments, ladder and rotating water cannon.
So, what did we think of it? As an introduction kit into model building it is excellent, very simple to assemble. It teaches following instructions, working together (whether adult and child or just the children), attention to detail and promotes motor skills. The parts are very durable but we did find one downside, once playing with the truck when the kids pushed it around the floor the wheels had a tendency to unscrew and fall off – which for a 4 year old can be quite frustrating. That said, the children love it!
It can also be disassembled quite easily.
Overall, this is a great beginners model kit for young children. As a toy the playability is somewhat limited with the wheels keep coming loose and falling off. I would have to rate it a 4 out of 5 purely for the wheel issue, although the boys love it and they have had plenty of fun with it and even though the wheels fall off they do like using the plastic child-friendly screwdriver to put the wheels back on again.
