First thing to notice is the packaging is very sturdy cardboard cover around a compartmentalised cardboard tray. This contains a small container with two ear buds, a charging cable, 3 pairs of ear tips of varying sizes. Beneath this tray is the information about a 2 year warranty on the product, a help card for The House of Marley, a Marley sticker, a quick start guide in numerous languages and a card about the recycled materials used to craft the item. It states on the outside cover that the packaging is recyclable. The company states it plants trees worldwide through Project Marley give-back platform to One Tree planted, a non profit organisation, so is doing it’s bit for the environment.

The small case is of a size to fit in the palm of the hand and that houses the earbuds is also the charger for them which is a really good option. It has led display to check how charged the ear buds are, which is activated by a tap on the case, a simple but effective method of making sure you have time available. The box says that you get 30 hours battery time with case and 8 hours play time but I have not practically tried to see how accurate that is. The buds should be charged for 15 minutes before first use. Being older and not terribly tech minded I called in the cavalry, in the shape of a techno savvy daughter to ensure everything went well initially but have found I can cope well with the instructions and they are easy to follow. The buds are water and sweat resistant. There are 3 small pages of pictorial explanation for operating the buds and 5 small paragraphs of instructions including how to factory reset the buds. The buds operate via Bluetooth and are IOS and Android compatible. If you wish to check out the instructions in bigger format they can be found at https://manuals.plus/marley/rebel-em-je121-manual.

When you take the ear buds out of the case they automatically go into pairing mode. They fit snuggly in the case so would not appear to fall out. However due to the size of the case and buds they can be a little difficult to remove from their slots but after a couple uses you soon get the idea of one finger and thumb. Once you have connected to Bluetooth and selected the size of ear tip you want, you are ready to go. Being made of natural products they are so much better than plastic or metal in terms of feel in the ears.

I played some music on my computer and tested out the functions. You can raise or lower the volume by sliding your finger tip on the buds, both being very responsive. The volume achieved was good without being excessive, but the quality of the tone was excellent. The balance was spot on too. You can skip about the tracks easily with a bit of practice. I especially liked that I could go out into another room and still have good quality sound and volume. I used the ear buds when playing some on line games and the quality of sound was excellent meaning that no one else was distracted by them. Using the telephone function I found the quality of sound and tone to be excellent and the function easy to use.

Unfortunately I do not have any other Bluetooth devices to connect to but due to my delight at these ear buds it is anticipated that a new television is on the horizon in order to allow the television volume to be returned to normal! I also did not test them in crowded noisy areas but I do not envisage a problem with the higher level of volume being sufficient to be heard clearly.

These are a really nice set of earbuds and do everything I would want from them. The quality of build and finish are excellent, comfortable and easy to use. If I got these as a present I would be delighted. A good present for a techno type person as well as those less able.
