My husband and I enjoyed this show; Real Diamond by Request. John Hylton has been performing in this roll for 25 years. The concert coincided with the announcement that Neil Diamond would not be touring again due to ill health and also on the eve of his 77th birthday.
From the moment John came on stage singing Sweet Caroline we knew it would be a good show. The audience sang along. He sang a lot of songs we recognized and also a couple we didn’t. Having seen Neil Diamond in person a couple of years ago, if you closed your eyes you would think it was Neil himself on stage. The atmosphere was electric. He had great interaction with the audience and invited them to chat between songs. He sang songs the audience had requested prior to the show. He was accompanied by a four-piece band lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and keyboard and his son who was his vocal backing. John played the guitar in many of the songs. He did a really good rendition of Amazing Grace. He finished with Coming to America which had the whole audience on their feet singing and dancing. I would recommend that if John comes to your area you go to see him, you will have a great evening. John announced that he would be returning 24 January 2019 to do ‘The Jazz Singer’ tour. I look forward to seeing this show.
The Fernham Hall is a small theatre in the centre of Fareham which opened in 1982. There is plenty of parking which is free after 6pm. It hosts the annual pantomime, exhibitions, fairs, meetings, seminars and dances/discos. It has good transport links by car, train and bus all a short walk away. The seating is both flat and tiered and there is very good disabled parking and access to the theatre. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a bar which serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks both hot and cold and snacks. The negative side is that it wasn’t very warm and the seating was rather old and torn in places. Also, there was no handrail when walking up or down on the tiered seating which made it difficult for some of the elderly audience.
