What a brilliant show! I would thoroughly recommend going to see it! Billed as ‘The Ultimate Rock Tribute Show’ – Purple Zeppelin certainly deserved this accolade! Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin tracks were performed and delivered to an exceptionally high standard.
Four experienced and talented band members paid musical homage to a selection of iconic and instantly recognisable rock anthems. The first half focussed on Deep Purple, with the second half covering Led Zeppelin. All were very accurate renditions of the original songs, with no backing tracks used. There was a light show, pyrotechnics and background projections, all of which added to the entertainment. It was obvious the band members really enjoyed the music they were playing; creating a ‘feel good’ vibe right from the first song.
It was an interactive performance; the lead singer (John Barnett) successfully achieving an immediate rapport with the audience, using both humour and word play. His vocal range was truly stunning, reaching the high notes required for both bands seemingly effortlessly.
Each instrumentalist had the opportunity to showcase their considerable talent on different tracks. Mark Dawson (Lead Guitar) was excellent and really appreciated by the audience for his rendition of notable and iconic tracks, using a variety of guitars to achieve near perfection. Mike Harlow (Bass Guitarist/Mandolin) also showed his versatility and well-honed instrumental expertise; whilst Tom Mitchell (Drums) had the opportunity to further showcase his amazing drumming skills on solo sections of the show.
A stand-out track was the band’s performance of Led Zeppelin’s ‘That’s The Way’; performed by John Barnett (Lead Singer), Mark Dawson (Acoustic Guitar) and Mike Harlow (Mandolin). They came off stage to perform this in front of the first row of the theatre. A truly wonderful rendition, with the whole audience spellbound at the virtuosity of the performance.
An excellent show; thoroughly recommended, with a 5-star rating. Hopefully Purple Zeppelin will return again to Ferneham Hall in 2019. I shall certainly attend again and will whole-heartedly recommend this show to my friends and family. Faultless, professional and exceptionally talented musicians; very worthy of the standing ovation given by the audience.
