I was recently invited to review the ‘Pretend to Bee’ – Nurse Hospital Accessories Set ‘A Busy Night Shift’ as a present that could be gifted to a little one at Christmastime.

The Nurse Hospital Accessories Set ‘A Busy Night Shift’ was quickly delivered and arrived in simple, single-use plastic packaging that I was able to recycle.

As a Specialist NHS Children’s Nurse, I love that there are so many products and toys now available for our toddlers and children with a medical theme to support and encourage children to learn through role play. This type of toy is perfect for preparation before planned surgery or for role-play after an emergency hospital admission or procedure to assist the child with working through what they may have unexpectedly experienced or observed by using play.

This set is a nurse or doctor’s hospital or clinic accessories type of activity toy. The set includes a plush white bag with a green felt first aid embroidery logo on the outside of the bag, complete with handles and a small Velcro tab to hold the items inside safely when transporting them from clinic to the ward! The bag contains – 5 padded pieces of equipment. Your child can take their pick from the fabric options including – a thermometer, a notepad and pencil, a silver watch, some green ‘safe’ scissors or a yellow and pink bandage dispenser ensuring that your child is all set for their busy night shift. Although I’d rather my ‘little one’ was sleeping all night and playing all day!

I love this simple but durable set that is designed out of 100% bi-stretch polyester, with each item having a soft feel and simple design. My 18-month-old assistant ‘nurse’ tester found it super light and compact and very easy to carry around and during his ‘rough’ testing (I’m not sure I’d like him to be my nurse!!) he certainly tested out the high-quality stitching and hemming. I’d like to add that It’s a total plus that this product is machine washable as so far this set has been everywhere with us, including out for a walk with the dog! It is also a sturdy, and creative product that will nurture the imagination of young children, at the same time delivering experiences through the power of play.
It’s so positive for a toy to encourage active development and learning through role-play.

This nursing bag accessory set can be used by any aspiring student ‘nurse’ or ‘doctor’ as part of their dress-up and also can be used for role-play, fancy dress parties, Halloween outfits, occupational exploration at the Hospital/GP Surgery or just for play-at-home fun activities.

The set is suitable for children from age 18 months up. And should be kept away from fire.

Finally, a bit of background about the ‘PRETEND TO BEE’ online company. I discovered that they offer a wide range of delightful dress-up solutions that will be sure to bring any magical moment to life. From story-time adventures, and awesome animal outfits, to educational wear, they have something for every ‘little one’ to help bring out the magic of learning through the power of play.

Pretend to Bee is a small family-run business that strives to craft quality products for children aged from 6 months to 11 years, products that will fire the imagination and encourage learning through play. Their range of made-to-last dressing-up costumes, educational toys and accessories are all designed to be both educational and fun!

Since their launch in 2005, Pretend to Bee has grown to be a trusted brand in the UK’s education sector for ‘Early Years Role Play’ with costumes featured on ITV’s This Morning and at the Pride of Britain Awards.

Positives – I liked that this set was created from soft fabric and wasn’t a bright garish hard plastic product. It is also just the right size for an 18-month-old to carry around and play with. Plus it appeared to be very durable despite some rough handling. And ‘the icing on the cake’ is that this set is from a UK-based small family-run online business.

Negatives – To be honest there weren’t any negatives other than it might be good to have a few more nursing/medical fabric items in the bag to expand their play but that likely would increase the price or perhaps there could be an option to buy an extra supplementary set that could be added to the bag.

I’d give this set a solid 5 out of 5 – I feel it is excellent value and I love that it can be given to an 18-month-old. Most nurse/doctor sets tend to be suitable from an older age.
