Playmobil Advent Calendar 2019 – Christmas Ball Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot
My family tends to get each other chocolate advent calendars each Christmas. This is lovely and more exciting than opening a door and revealing a picture. That said, once the chocolate has been eaten it is gone. I love the idea of advent calendars which offer treats which can be used over time but they can be expensive. I think that the Playmobil Christmas Ball Advent Calendar is perfect because it costs under £20. Christmas came early in our house as we got to try out the advent calendar early. What I love about the advent calendar is that the doors for each day between 1 and 24 are various sizes according to the surprise hidden behind the door. I say surprise as I do not want to ruin things by telling you exactly what is behind each door on which day, so instead I will provide a list of the contents:
- Various Playmobil characters in ball attire
- Table & chairs
- A beautifully decorated Christmas tree
- Violin
- Cats
- Dog
- Music stand
- Skis
- Sledge
- Christmas presents
- Bird & stand
- Food
- Glasses & plates
- Other décor items

The box can even be made into a setting and backdrop for the ball. By day 24, the characters have all that they need to have a perfect ball. It’s easy to make the box into the room the ball is held in. This set is suitable for age 4+ and has 93 pieces, excellent value when you think that it costs just £19.99. So what did we think of this product? We all loved it. There was so much excitement in anticipation of opening each window of the advent calendar. When I mention excitement, I have to say I was as excited as my twins. They loved putting the pieces aside ready to see what they had at the end of the 24 days. We do have other Playmobil products too and are massive fans of Playmobil in our household.
Building the background setting for the ball was a lovely chilled out activity to do as a family. My twins loved laying out the various pieces ready for the ball. My favourite thing about the figures was that they rotate for dancing. We have played with this for hours. Some of the pieces have been used in our dolls house too. I have a plastic box which stores the items away neatly when not in use. Another thing I wanted to mention is that the pieces are made from quality materials. Toys have to be robust in our home to stand up to some rough play from twins.

Outstanding for both value and play value. This set provided hours of fun for the whole family. I think any child would be delighted to receive this advent calendar in the days leading up to Christmas. I would buy a Playmobil advent calendar next year. There are other advent calendars in the range such as Santa’s Workshop (RRP: £19.99) and the Jumbo Advent Calendar – Family Christmas (RRP: £44.99).
If you are looking for an advent calendar this year that is much better value, chocolate free and has years of playability, then I can highly recommend the Playmobil advent calendar.
