Pickering’s Crimbo Limbo Gin Calendar Review

Let’s face it, by the time Christmas Day is done and dusted we’re all shattered after weeks of rushing around buying and wrapping gifts, ferrying the children from one Christmas activity to the next, partying with work colleagues and friends, cleaning the house for unexpected Christmas visitors, and then prepping, cooking, and entertaining on the big day!  It’s exhausting even thinking about it!  I absolutely adore Christmas, but it comes at the cost of my sanity and by Boxing Day I’m done with the festive cheer and just want to hide away from the world in my pyjama’s awaiting what the new year will bring.  This feeling is exactly why Pickering’s advert for their new limited-edition Crimbo Limbo calendar made me laugh out loud when I saw it, it is me to a T!

Well known for their gin baubles and uniquely flavoured Brussels Sprout gin (sounds disgusting but it has great reviews and I’m seriously tempted to give it a try!), the Pickering’s Crimbo Limbo gin calendar is a new creation from the Summerhall Distillery in Edinburgh and it’s getting a lot of hype.

The Crimbo Limbo calendar isn’t your typical advent calendar, in fact it’s not for the run up to Christmas at all.  This is a new concept that see’s you through the ‘Crimbo Limbo’ period with a delicious daily tipple.  So, what is ‘Crimbo Limbo’?  Well according to Marcus Pickering, the co-founder of the Summerhall Distillery, it’s the six-day period that stretches from Boxing Day to New Years Eve when you’ve lost track of what day it is, and everything is a bit of a blur.

Behind each day of the calendar there is an amusing little message and a different flavoured miniature bottle of gin. Each bottle contains two measures (total of 50ml per bottle) so the recipient can choose to share or keep it to themselves and have two glasses!  One of the lovely touches to this gift is that on the outside of the box there is a QR code that once scanned takes you to the Summerhall Distillery YouTube Channel.  Each day from 26th December, a new video will be released that will talk you through the best serving suggestion for that day’s flavour of gin.  I didn’t feel that I could write an honest review without having a little taster of each of the gins.  I won’t spoil the surprise of the flavour’s but what I will say is that they didn’t disappoint.  I’ve held back a measure of each and am genuinely looking forward to watching the videos to follow the Summerhall Distillery serving recommendations.

Having a calendar that counts you down to the New Year is a fun concept, a little bit quirky, and something that I’ve not seen before. It is slightly pricey but in my opinion it’s a great gift (or treat for yourself) and is well worth it.
