Personalise Your Home In 5 Easy Steps

Shopping for your home is always fun, but, over time, you might find your style has become more eclectic than coordinated. If you’re looking for a fresh new look, why not consider a style that is a bit more personal and a bit more you? There are five simple things to decide when you’re looking for a style that flows. You can use it all through your house to help create a theme that’s personal to you and reflects your character a bit more. Here are the five easy steps to creating a more personalised style for your home:

Colour

Most of us start by creating a theme from a favourite colour. Try to find various shades and tones of that same colour in the things you choose for your home decor. For example, you might find cushions that have vibrant patterns in reds and pinks. One of those colours is likely to be your theme colour. Next, you’ll match the curtains and the rug to it. All you need is one of those colours to appear. You might have a full rainbow of choice, but one should tie everything together.

Shape

Lots of people have a favourite shape. If you love geometric patterns, chances are you’re fond of squares. You could display square frames for pictures and photos on each wall throughout your house. If curves are more your thing, look for ornaments, cushions and patterns with circles, ovals and spheres. Using shape to create a style theme for your house can offer you plenty of opportunities to mix and match your decor and soft furnishings too.

Texture

Texture is another way to tie in all your style choices to a single theme. You might start with your rug. Long woolly piles offer a lovely tactile experience, but also provide a particularly stylish look. This can be replicated in your cushion covers and even your curtains if you’re looking for a fun update. There are smooth, glossy finishes, rough corduroy finishes, or even faux fur finishes to experiment with. How tactile is your home?

Light

Light brings out the best in every colour and fabric you have. Playing with the lighting colour and direction can create some amazing looks. You might start by picking a style of light fitting. LEDs are available for almost any type of light you have. They come in several different colour temperatures to offer the warm glow of choice. Or you might pick a cooler white, or even colour changing bulbs. If you love chandeliers, try to use that as a theme for each room. Natural light can easily be directed with Venetian blinds to help bring out a variety of colour and shade in your room.

Flow

Check the flow from one room to the next. You might have a red colour theme in the kitchen, but there is no guarantee the journey into the purple dining room will feel comfortable. Each colour or theme choice should flow into the adjoining room or space, so it all feels part of the whole home experience. One type of flooring or a strong gloss white wood paint could work. How do you personalise your home?
