Free Tours of London offer 3 FREE walking tours in London exploring different aspects of our capital city. The three tours they offer are Royal Tour (approx. 2½ hours), Old City Tour (approx. 2½ hours) and the Jack the Ripper Tour (approx. 2 hours).

The Royal Tour runs once daily at 11am from Parliament Square in Westminster (next to the statue of Winston Churchill) and you set off to visit Royal Palaces, Royal Parks, Houses of Parliament and lots more.

The Old City Tour runs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday starting at 4pm from Temple tube station and takes you on a tour of the oldest parts of the city.

The Jack the Ripper Tour runs every day at 8pm from Tower Hill tube station (there are 2 entrances/exits to this station so you will need the one next to the old Roman wall) and takes you on a tour of the murder sites of one of the world’s most infamous serial killers.

At 2 hours or more per tour there is a lot of walking involved so make such that you wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water as in hot weather it can get quite draining, especially if you decide to do all three on the same day as I did. To start the tours just turn up at the designated meeting point and look for the guide with the large orange umbrella.

So as these are free tours how to the guides earn a living? Well the simple answer is that you effectively tip the guide, paying what you think the tour and the guide are worth. So if you didn’t like the tour or you feel the guide wasn’t any good you pay nothing, but if you do enjoy it (and I found no reason that you wouldn’t) then you pay what you think it is worth or what you can afford making it suitable for any budget.

These are a great way to spend a day touring London, seeing the well-known sights as well as the lesser-known sights and getting a brief history of each one all without breaking the bank.

I would highly recommend these tours to anybody; whether you want to know fun facts about London or you want to know more about the history of capital city then these are perfect. Or if you are an overseas visitor what better way to get to know the city you have decided to visit.
