Pepper Parrot’s Problem with Patience by Carole P Roman Review

Reviewed by Debbie Douglas

This is the second story we have read about Captain No Beard and his pirate crew on their boat The Flying Dragon. I love how the stories have subtle ways of teaching the kids the right and wrong way to do things. The book also shows children how it is better to work as a team and this is a theme which has continued from the first book. This particular book is about patience and learning your left from your right. Craig loves the characters in this book his favourite this time was Fribbet the frog. I think the author does a fabulous job with the names and characters. The illustrations are amazing, I absolutely love the artwork which brings the characters to life and engages the children further into the story. We love to pretend we are also on the Flying Dragon off on an adventure.

The book is a nice length and we use it to practice Craig’s reading as it holds his interest well. The title of this book is a fabulous tongue twister and had us all laughing trying to say it as quickly as possible. This story explores how changing the description of something can change our perception of something or someone. I really liked that idea and it was really put across well in the book.

I would thoroughly recommend this book and it can be read either as part of the Captain No Beard series or as a stand-alone book.
