Shooting from the Lip
Alhambra Theatre, Bradford

Last night my husband and I had the pleasure of reviewing Patrick Monahan’s “Shooting from the Lip” tour at the “Studio” at Bradford’s Alhambra theatre. I’d not been to The Studio before, it’s a small venue perfect for this kind of intimate show, the staff were all extremely friendly and efficient which generally added to the pleasant atmosphere and importantly the beer was good and of a reasonable price.
I haven’t seen Patrick Monahan before and hence seemed to be in the minority in the audience, he obviously has a very loyal following who he knows very well. The whole show is generally of a feel good nature and utterly inoffensive while remaining very funny, and as Patrick himself said at the start of the show there is an awful lot of hugging involved! His style incorporates a great deal of audience participation mixed in with some more traditional stand-up based on his childhood in an Iranian-Irish family. The audience members joined in with enthusiasm and this makes for a varied and at times extremely funny routine, and I suspect that no two shows will be the same.
The show lasted for well over 2 hours with a 20 minute interval during which Patrick mingled with the audience. At the end of the show he also spent time with the audience chatting, taking pictures and giving out even more hugs.
This was a great evening, really funny, friendly and comedy you could happily take your family along to, I would heartily recommend it.
