We arrived for our short break at Park Resorts Southview Leisure Park in Skegness shortly before 4pm. Our first glimpse of the site, pond with ducks and swans, the onsite ‘Southview Park Hotel’, well manicured gardens and welcoming reception area all gave a fantastic impression.

The reception area is large and full of useful information regarding onsite facilities and local attractions etc… Importantly it was also staffed well so we only had to wait a few minutes before being checked in. The receptionist was very helpful and also gave her local knowledge with regard to one of the local attractions that we were interested in visiting.

Our luxury Platinum 2 bed caravan was located around a small duck pond (complete with several ducks of the quacking variety!) Also resident around the pond were 3 wild rabbits which my 4 year old daughters concluded were a Mummy and her two babies. The added bonus of such wildlife was an added bonus and an instant hit with the children.

The caravan was lovely, the modern kitchen was well equipped with all of the cutlery, pots and pans that you would need. The kitchen also had a full size cooker and hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and full sized dishwasher much to our surprise (and dishwasher tablets). The seating area benefitted from a proper table and chairs and the kitchen/dining area was spacious and made plenty of cupboard space.

The living room felt cosy with a flat screen TV and inbuilt DVD player, modern gas fire, sofa bed and two arm chairs. It felt like a real living room and I forgot I was in a caravan a few times.

The bedrooms were at the other end of the caravan and with three doors between the living area and the bedrooms the children were able to sleep and we could relax without having to creep around trying not to wake them.

Again our room was modern and had a comfortable double bed, more than enough storage with several wardrobes, mirrors, dressing table, several lighting options and a ‘secret’ ensuite toilet and sink which was a surprise and handy to have at times. The children’s room had two small single beds and again more than enough storage for our requirements. Bed linen was clean and fresh, pillows and mattresses comfortable.

We appreciated the little extras that we received which included, towels, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, margarine, crisps, marmalade, crisps, chocolates and cookies! Our daughters were especially impressed with the ‘Sparky’ soft toys that had been left on the beds for them.

We ate onsite in the Boathouse Bar & Restaurant on the first evening. The menu had plenty to choose from, was well priced and we all enjoyed our chosen meals. My husband assures me that the beer was good and also not overpriced. The dessert menu also looked very appealing, although I resisted (haven’t a clue how). Perhaps for those visiting without young children in tow they could try visiting ‘The Orangery’ which is the new A la Carte Restaurant located within Southview Park Hotel, available for lunch and dinner service. This is also open to the general public so book early if you want to go – unfortunately we hadn’t booked and were unable to get in for Sunday Lunch.

The evening entertainment began with ‘Sparky Funtime’ for the children, which they enjoyed participating in and looked forward to. I enjoyed the ‘Linked Bingo’ which involves 40 sites having a live link and all playing the same games – some big wins were won, although unfortunately it wasn’t me that won the Hi5 game on the last night!

Daytime activities that our children participated in were the ‘Pips Mousehouse’ and ‘Arty Sparks’, both of which were thoroughly enjoyed and I found staff to be friendly and welcoming.

We also went swimming and enjoyed using the pool and baby pool. The new flume looked very impressive and I’m sure it will be a big hit.

The amusement area was large enough to provide plenty of entertainment for our daughters as they enjoyed the children’s rides and filling their pockets with anything that was won.

Despite our visit being at the very beginning of the season we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, one that we would be happy to repeat in the future.

Highly recommended. A great holiday for all the family to enjoy.
