Pam Ann at The Lowry Review

Pam Ann is the most well-known (or some would say notorious) character of Australian comedienne Caroline Reid. An over the top, glamorous air hostess, she is a gay Icon whose humour pokes fun at the airline industry and its many stereotypes.
The theme is of course all around air travel and her stereotypes of the different airline staff were particularly cutting. EasyJet employees are apparently always loud and can be heard walking through Manchester Airport all the way from The Lowry, whilst Virgin Atlantic team are all sex obsessed and always whisper seductively like adult chat line operators. I got the distinct impression from the cheers and jeers when certain airlines were mentioned that there were several air stewards in the audience.
She definitely got the crowd going from the outset, making sure everyone was on their feet for her own version of Beyonce’s Who Rules The World. On seeing empty seats in the stalls, or business class as Pam Ann referred to it, she invited some members of the crowd from ‘economy’ the back of the theatre to move forward, free upgrade!
The in-flight movie, I will not spoil for those who have yet to see the show, was a brilliant take on a very well-known film with Pam Ann playing the lead.
This is not a show for the feint hearted or easily offended. If you do not like profanities and crude jokes this is not the show for you. Personally I thought it was really funny. OK it’s not deep and intellectual but it did not appear heavily scripted as I have seen with other comedians.
It’s great for a night out with a group of friends, a good fun show with a lively crowd. I can honestly say I have never seen as large a queue for the bars during the interval at The Lowry, unfortunately being a Monday night and having work in the morning we were unable to join in!
I would definitely go to see Pam Ann again and however I would say if you do not know her humour watch her on YouTube first as it will not be to everyone’s taste.
