In the last few years, in my late 30s and into my 40s, I have gotten much more into my skincare, knowing that just throwing moisturiser on my face isn’t enough to take care of my skin any more. I have a fairly decent routine now, with a number of products which I tend not to change very often, as I like them and they do what I want! I was therefore intrigued to try the OK Beauty Box to see if I could possibly be persuaded to change anything, and have a chance to try a few new things too.

The OK Beauty Box is a subscription where you pay £15 a month and receive a box including 5 beauty products worth a minimum of £80. Your first box is actually only £4.95 so that’s a really good deal! You’ll also get early access to special Celebrity Limited Edition boxes and 2 OK magazines a month worth £5.20. You can stop or skip your subscription any time, so you’re not tied into any contracts which can be really off-putting when you just want to try something out, to see if you like it, before you commit longer term. There’s even free delivery in most areas!

My OK Beauty Box arrived in an eco-friendly cardboard box which I can either reuse or recycle. It was easy to open, and I found my 5 lovely products nestled in some recyclable packing paper. My box contained a Germaine de Capuccini glow force sheet mask, an Original Scrub Co Arabica coffee and coconut body scrub, Kate Somerville ExfoliKate treatment, Root and Fruit bright start cream, and Warda collagen skin lifter boost oil-serum.

The first item I tried was the Warda serum, worth a rather staggering £49.99. It contains hydrolysed collagen which can aid skin’s moisture levels and smoothness, glycerin and almond oil to replenish skin, and pomegranate extract for antioxidant properties. It comes in a glass stoppered bottle containing 30ml of product. It smells absolutely gorgeous! You drop it onto cleansed skin and massage in, and it should help to reduce the appearance of expression lines, increase skin’s bounce, and improve moisture. I used it in place of my normal facial serum and really liked it, but it does leave a slightly tacky feel to the face. I will probably continue using this one and perhaps use a bit less each time.

Next I used the Germaine de Capuccini glow force sheet mask, worth £14.15. When you tear open the packet and remove the mask, it is folded up and saturated with the product. I opened it up and smoothed it onto my face, leaving it there to do its work for the recommended 15 minutes. It is supposed to leave you with gorgeously glowing complexion however as I did it before bed it was hard to tell! It did feel very refreshing and soothing though.

I next tried the Wild Science Lab bright start SPF 30 Broad Spectrum UV Shield, in travel size, worth £12, as the sun made a rare appearance and we should always wear our SPF even if the sun is behind clouds and we’re indoors! This SPF is supposed to leave you with a lovely glow and smell incredible – I can agree it definitely smells lovely, but again I’m not entirely sure about whether it left me glowing. It felt the most SPF creams, slightly heavier than I prefer, but I know it was doing a good job on my face in the sun so I was glad to use it.

Next up was the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate intensive exfoliating treatment, travel size worth £24. This face scrub is marketed as Hollywood’s 2 minute facial, as you massage it into your skin for 30 seconds, leave it on for 2 minutes, then rinse and pat dry. After that you should feel a tingle and glow, and should see an improvement in skin texture, pores and fine lines after just one use. It is a dark green colour with a mild clove-like scent. It contains various skin-boosting acids but also biodegradable silica beads, which are tiny, and are what exfoliate your skin. You can feel then buffing the dead skin off, but not in a rough and unpleasant way. It does feel tingly, and if you have sensitive skin you may not want to leave it on as long, but it does give you a glow and leaves your skin feeling lovely and refreshed, and soft, after use.

Finally, there’s the Original Scrub Co Arabian coffee and coconut scrub, worth £4.45. This body scrub should help reduce the appearance of cellulite, wrinkles, ageing, acne, redness and puffiness, which is quite a tall order for a little bag of scrubby stuff! I really don’t like the smell of coffee, and boy does this smell of coffee! So it’s not really a product I’ll use often, but I can see why others would. The texture is very sand-like, so it helps to really exfoliate your skin. It contains caffeine to boost your circulation and helps improve the skin’s renewal. It also contains Himalayan pink salt for the detox properties, so overall if you like coffee then this body scrub is definitely for you.

Overall, I really liked this box! I got some great products I would never have normally tried. The box changes monthly and there are other options such as the Aleysha Dixon box, or ones containing all full sized products. If you want to try some beauty different items, then this subscription box is a great way to do it for a really good price.
