Now That's What I Call Relaxing Classical

I enjoyed listening to this album in the main as there is plenty of variety over 4 CDs, which includes a nice mix of famous music, theme tunes, movie tracks and the odd modern track given the classical treatment – I can't say they were my cup of tea.

I really can see this album being the background music to a dinner party or social evening as it does flow and mix up the popular and lesser known tracks well.

I have a couple of issues with the album though, firstly, I feel the name as it is misleading and could be taken the wrong way. Relaxing and how we relax is obviously a personal thing – some might like to relax to a horror film, whilst I prefer a good comedy. Classical music is dramatic and atmospheric as much as soft and gentle, and this album, broad in its selection, includes a full range – so how it would be relaxing to any person all the way through is a mystery. Some of the booming vocals I had to skip through as they were actually stressful. That I was not expecting.

My other issue when listening to the album was the track information given was a bit sparse and focussed on the particular track version rather with little or no mention of the original – I would prefer to have both bits of information with classical music.

You can pick this album up for £12 which for over 4 hours of music is a steal, even if you don't like it all. If you enjoy classical music, even a little bit, then this will be album that adds something to a collection, or starts a collection very well.
