I was invited to attend a VIP event at my local Brewers Fayre in Catterick Garrison this evening. I was invited with a friend, to sample the new Spring menu now available at all Brewers Fayre restaurants.
We were greeted by the very friendly staff of the restaurant when we arrived and were offered a drink and had the event explained to us. We were going to be sampling different available options from the starter, main and dessert menus.
Once seated the first samples were readily available. For the starter options we were given chicken wings and crispy potato dippers to try. As a menu choice, you would receive half a dozen southern style, deep fried breaded chicken wings served with a peri-peri dipping sauce. The crispy potato dippers are slices of potato topped with bacon, spring onion and mozzarella and cheddar cheese served with a sour cream dip. Both options were very tasty and both dips complemented the items being served. Comparing the two, my friend and I both preferred the crispy potato dippers. The mixture of ingredients and supporting dip provided a truly magnificent taste.
There were four samples available to represent the new Spring main menu options available: Mexican beef chilli, Pepper, squash and feta cheese tart, chicken garlic chicken and the beef, mushroom and cheese hamburger. The Mexican beef chilli was served with plain boiled rice and some crispy nacho chips. The chilli was spicy to the taste but was somewhat bland, if I had selected this option as my main, it was nice enough to eat but I wouldn’t repeat the order on my next visit. The pepper, squash and feta cheese tart consisted of a cheddar cheese & paprika shortcrust pastry, filled with red pepper, butternut squash, spinach and feta cheese. The combination of the different ingredients was something that I had not tasted before but I was surprised by the appealing taste. As a menu choice this would be served with a salad and French dressing, this option is suitable for vegetarians and an option that I would select again. The Chicken Garlic Chicken consisted of a breaded chicken breast topped with a garlic spread. This was a very tasty option, the chicken and garlic complemented each other perfectly. As a menu choice the Chicken Garlic Chicken would be served with a fried egg, chips and salad garnish. This would be an option that I would select again on a returning visit. My favourite option from the main samples was the beef, mushroom and cheese burger. This option consisted of a grilled beef burger topped with mushrooms and cheddar cheese. One of my favourite meals is beef burgers and this was one of the best I’ve tasted. As a menu choice this would be served with chips and crunchy coleslaw, and this would definitely be my main menu choice on a returning visit.
As with most people this evening, the course I was looking forward to the most was the desserts and I wasn’t left disappointed. The two options available as a sample was the Dirty Mud Pie and Banoffee Pie, both desserts were amazing but for my friend and I, by a very close margin, the Banoffee Pie was the winner. The Dirty Mud Pie consisted of a chocolate biscuit base, followed by a layer of chocolate brownie, smothered by creamy chocolate and topped with chocolate fudge sauce and sprinkled with white chocolate shavings. I really liked the overall flavour that the different layer combination provided, a true chocolate overload. Out of all the people who attended this evening’s event, this was a very popular choice amongst chocolate lovers. As a menu option the Dirty Mud Pie is served with ice cream, crumbed flake and chocolate sauce. My favourite dessert option of the night was the Banoffee Pie. A biscuit base with caramel and fresh cream layers topped with a slice of fresh banana. The different ingredients combined to create an exquisite taste, not too sickly just perfect. As a menu choice this option would be served with fresh banana slices and drizzled with caramel sauce.
I would highly recommend the new Brewer’s Fayre Spring menu to anyone. If you are looking for a new place to visit or planning a return trip, the range of new and exquisite menu options are definitely worth a try.
