New Spring Menu at Brewers Fayre Burleydam Review

A warm welcome at the Burleydam!

My husband and I travelled to the Brewers Fayre in Childer Thornton on Tuesday evening to sample their new Spring menu as part of a tasting event. With the evening planned for 5-7pm we arrived shortly before 5 to be greeted by Andy the restaurant manager to find we were the first there. After a brief introduction and a short itinerary on what the session would entail we were invited into the bar area for complimentary wines or soft drinks.

Shortly another group of four arrived and joined us in the bar area, after a while Andy approached us to ask whether we thought the email confirmation for the event we had received was clear to understand, as he was expecting sixty guests for the evening. We explained the information we received in our opinion was both informative and helpful for us to plan our evening.

Andy was most apologetic for the slight delay in the food being served, and was more than happy to keep our drinks flowing whilst he attempted to find out what appeared to be the problem with the awaiting guests. A slow stream of people did arrive in the next thirty minutes or so and with around 20 customers of the expected 60 inside the bar. At 17.45 we were greeted to our first courses of the evening.

Crispy potato dippers with a sour cream dip and chicken wings with a piri piri sauce were delivered to our table. Both dishes were delicious with the piri piri adding a fiery taste to the succulent and wonderfully coated wings.

If this was the standard set for the evening we were surely in for a mouth-watering treat! We were then served with our main menu selection and we were not to be disappointed. Four samples in all were delivered to our table by the wonderful staff, who were more than happy to return with seconds on request, an invitation both myself and husband duly accepted! With Chilli con carne, Chicken garlic chicken served with chips and fried egg, Beef, mushroom and cheese burgers and a Pepper, squash and feta cheese tart to sample the hard decision was where to start?

We both quickly agreed that the portions were very generous indeed for just a taster session and after a short deliberation agreed much to our surprise that our favourite dish was the tart, something we both admitted we would always overlook whilst choosing from the menu when out for dinner, but have now seen the error in our ways at what we have missed out on for so long. Another wonderfully tasty array of food on display, deliciously enjoyed by us both.

As we sat back and relaxed after our main courses, debating whether we needed to undo our buttons or not after a glorious meal, our senses tingled again with the sight of my favourite sitting, desserts!!

With much excitement and wonder I had personally checked over the puds section of the menu upon first arrival, curious at what would possibly be on the agenda this evening, and I can assure you I was not to be disappointed. My all-time favourite Banoffe pie arrived first, soon followed by the Dirty mud pie.

We both fell silent as we savoured every last piece of the puds and sank into our chairs in a dessert heaven – absolutely gorgeous, it was rude not take up the invitation of more when offered it soon after.

A fabulous evening and such a shame for Andy and his brilliant team that a high percentage of the bookings failed to turn up, but we can assure them they really did miss a treat. From a warm, homely setting, fabulous food and truly lovely staff who really do seem to love their jobs. Lewis the head chef was more than happy to sit and chat with us after the meal and you could not fail to notice how passionate Andy is about his role in the restaurant when talking to him. All the staff we met on our evening seem to truly be the heart and soul of the Burleydam.

We will most certainly be back and with our children next time too. After our meal we had a walk round the venue and also discovered the recently refurbished indoor children’s soft play area.
