The upcoming production of My Fair Lady at Poole Lighthouse promises to be a great treat for theatre enthusiasts. This timeless musical, presented by P&P Productions, will run from 21st to the 24th May, 2025. The story follows Eliza Doolittle, a feisty Cockney flower girl, who becomes the subject of a wager between the linguistics professor Henry Higgins and his friend Colonel Pickering. The wager? To transform Eliza into a lady who can pass as a duchess in high society through the power of proper speech. The storyline explores identity and societies expectations, and although Eliza is transformed in many ways, the narrative cleverly explores who truly undergoes the transformation.
I am excited to see this production, as I not only grew up watching this film, but have sung the songs and watched a theatre production of this in London years ago which was brilliant. The show includes comedy, romance, and unforgettable tunes including classics like Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, I Could Have Danced All Night, and On the Street Where You Live. The production is set to capture the charm and fun of the original, while offering a fresh perspective on its characters and themes.
The venue, Poole Lighthouse, is renowned for its excellent acoustics and comfortable seating, ensuring a pleasant experience for attendees. With its welcoming atmosphere, bar and restaurant, it serves as the perfect backdrop for this beloved musical. Tickets are priced from £20, and I think they will sell out fast so don’t hesitate to grab yours!
