Last night I had the pleasure of watching Motown the Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre! The staff were as always very welcoming and with also showing us to our seats. The auditorium was full to the brim!
I was very excited about seeing this show as it has been around for some time and had heard great things previously. This show celebrates 25 years of Motown and is based on Berry Gordy’s autobiography. Throughout the entire evening we were all transfixed, the singing dancing and acting superbly illustrated the wonderful memories of how Motown first came about from the creator Berry Gordy. Gordy was by far the most successful record label. The show celebrated a huge selection of sensational Motown hits! All the favourites included tributes from The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson.
I was absolutely blown away! The show from start to finish was ultimately fantastic and the best show I’ve ever seen! No money was spared whatsoever there were awesome sets and beautiful impressive colourful glitzy costumes with no end of costume changes! I highly recommend you go and watch this if you get the chance, worth every single penny and for once a good duration about 2 hours 40 minutes so I think really good entertainment value for a guaranteed night out, I wouldn’t hesitate going to watch this again. Great singing, all confident performers! My favourite was Marvin Gaye, he certainly had the swagger! By the end of evening everyone was up singing, dancing and clapping our hands which in itself was a wonderful sight! I didn’t want it to end!
The strong main cast who were brilliant and deserved so much applause included:
Daniel Cort – Berry Gordy
Karis Anderson- Diana Ross
Nathan Lewis – Smokey Robinson
Shak Gabbidon-Williams – Marvin Gaye
Along with too many talented ensemble to mention! Great band, creative and productive team who cleverly put this musical masterpiece together! The show really did make you appreciate the great soul music from many years ago.
