My 5-year-old girls’ crafty inspiration has been reignited by the Mister Maker and the Shapes Live show at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh this morning.
The King’s Theatre is located on Leven Street in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh. There is on-street parking in the vicinity.
We were welcomed to the busy theatre by the pleasant front of house staff. We sat in row N of the stalls where we had super visibility of the full stage. Seating is on a gradient and the raised stage ensured the children could all see well and there were plenty of booster seats available too. The theatre feels intimate and in such an interactive show you feel very much part of the action.
I think most parent and grandparents will be familiar with the colourful Mister Maker in his spotty waistcoat who guides children through simple craft projects and in a fun way instilling basic principles such as shapes and colours.
Phil Gallagher is not only Mister Maker but also writes and co-produces the show in conjunction with Emily Wood & Paul Hendry of Evolution Productions. Mister Maker has graced our screen since 2007 in over 160 episodes of the show. It has also toured extensive across the world reaching as far as India and Australia.
The live version follows a similar format to the TV show with the ‘minute makes’ and Mister Maker is joined on stage by the shapes. The show is full of song, dance and of course plenty of crafty action. The directions for all the makes can be found on the website (which saves trying to remember what to do!) my girls have the glue out already to replicate the cat and the cuppet!!
The vibrant and energetic Mister Maker will appeal to all ages. The show continues its tour visiting venues across the UK until November.
